The only thing I am worried about is the knot that was right next to the butt in the ply. Is that something to worry about?

I had an Imperialstar. 22x16 bass, 13", 14" and 16" mounted concert toms with the Duracoat? coating inside. No projection AT ALL! But they did come with a set of Paiste black label 602 hihats hehehe....
