Re: Favorite Configuration(s)?

I dig 2up, 1dn but with a little twist, move the 2up towards the HH to get the ride in closer.

Re: Vadrum Classical Drumming

Funky...I agree with your statement that he does "play over it", but that is kind of his schtick, showcase the drums. I doubt his current style would work in a conventional band, he would have to...

Re: Vadrum Classical Drumming

I loved it, been a fan since his early Mario stuff. It's good to see him recording live with others rather than doing covers in his studio. Other than great chops and total command of his instrument...

Re: This Guy is the Best I've Ever Seen!

This is the reason I continue to check in...every once and a while you get inspired to get better, practice a little longer, pick up another instrument. Thank you.

Re: Don't underestimate your throne height

I too play with my throne on the high side. The bottom of my seat is about the height of the bass (22"). I play heel up and it's much less stress on your thighs at this height. Plus, I like the feel...

Re: DW Performance Series

I agree with the posters that it's DW attempt to get it's mid-level market share. I have not played the Performance series but I 100% agree that the Collectors Series have serious more low end that...

Re: My Tama Saga: Excitement, Anticipation, Disapppointment, Anger, More Anger, Redemption, Satisfac

This is the 2010 Starclassic Bubinga line, not the Elite Bubinga. The Elite is the same construction but more elaborate finishes. Then there is the Bubinga OmniTune option. I credit my dealer with...

My Tama Saga: Excitement, Anticipation, Disapppointment, Anger, More Anger, Redemption, Satisfaction

Last May I ordered a Tama Starclassic Bubinga. I got it about ten weeks later. When it was finally delivered I was very impressed how it was packaged. Every single item was individually packaged,...

Re: TERRY BOZZIO CLINIC

Caught the clinic at Interstate w/ Bozzio, Bun E., McQuitty and Famularo on 10/23. Had a nice chat and a autograph from one of my influences Bun E. I thought his segment was the best of the night. He...

Re: What Was Your Tipping Point for Dramatic Improvement?

Becoming four limb independent. Being a lefty in a righty world was always great for my feet, transitioning to double bass was pretty easy. But, my right (snare) hand was always on beat, ghost notes...

Re: Selling a drum and keeping options open?

Keep it. Chances are someday you will need it, and you probably will never be able to find a match. Ever try a floor tom outside your hats? It opens up a lot fills that you would not normally play.

Re: Mixing acrylic and wood in a kit?

First off, why piece by piece? You want your bass/toms to blend, then go with the snare sound that you like (various metals/woods). Unless your buying used single drums are way over priced.

Re: Tama to China

Got a Starclassic Bubinga on order...7 weeks and counting down. Steve, the drum tech at Interstate, had nothing but good things to say about Tama in China. State of the art manufacturing, great...

Re: Tom mounts?

I like the option to put my toms anywhere. Virgin bass allows you to do that. I like to put the ride low and close and with these tom mounts you can do that.

Re: tuning and ring (in snare)...yes, i've searched

Try a Evans Genera Dry. I use one for close mic recording and never have to treat it. I sometimes wish it had more "ring" to it, play closer to the rim just to get a little more. Something in...

Re: which colour kit!?

White, like black, is a classic. It catches stage lights pretty good. A silver sparkle explodes under the spots.

Re: problem with New Gretsch catilina Maples

Good call LI, I think that bass hoop is on backwards. Flat side in. I had a similar issue with the stock bass reso head on my renowns, though not as large of a gap. The issue was the crimp on the...

Re: problem with New Gretsch catilina Maples

Another vote for take them back. Why even waste your time trying to get different rims/hoops, if that's even the problem. Get a different kit, inspect the new kit at the store.

Re: Drum Wood Comparison Results

I saw one of those UVVS kits in person. It's not as crazy as you think. Looks great under the lights..Brendon F Moore used one for a past Christina Aguilera tour. It's a different color but not too...

Drum Wood Comparison Results

Was at Interstate today on a quest to pick out a new non-maple kit to complement my Renowns. I had a Tama Bubinga, Yamaha Abs Birch and for comparison brought my 10 and 12 rack toms from my maple...

Re: Recording Drums With 8 Mics Max

Consider yourself lucky to have all those channels for the drums. I think you need 2 overheads more than 2 bass mics. With a decent bass mic one is enough, people sometimes mic with 2; one for attack...

Re: Opinions between two Starclassic Finishes

Great stuff guys, thanks. I want something to complement my maple kit. Over half my work is recording and you hear so much about "how great birch sounds in the studio" so I gotta try it. And bubinga...

Opinions between two Starclassic Finishes

Going to test drive a Tama Bub and a Yam Abs Birch tomorrow. I'm leaning toward the Tama but if the Yam blows me away who knows. Anyway there are two Tama finishes that interest me and I can't seem...
