Re: My Playing - The Horror!
so true - my status "deep in the groove" pretty much tells you where my sensibilities lie. I am so obsessed over time and groove that any fluctuations really upset me. I'm a big follower of many of...

Re: My Playing - The Horror!
Thanks Lar and the rest of the crew. I've got a lot of things to try out!
Counting out loud while playing has never been a big problem for me but for some reason I don't feel as locked-in as when...

Re: My Playing - The Horror!
wow - great suggestions. The Steve Smith bit really intrigues me.
I experimented with singing the melody line this morning and I was pretty much spot-on with the grooves and fills, so a huge...

Thanks everyone for the replies so far, much appreciated and it's comforting to know many of you also experienced similar challenges.

Hi everyone -
I took the plunge and started more consistently recording myself playing and listening to the results a few months ago. While my sense of time is generally ok when playing along to...

Re: Simple drum charts
Good stuff. This may be an issue of nomenclature, but this seems like more of a transcription than a chart. I use charts as a type of cheat sheet when playing to songs I'm not too familiar with ie...

Re: Drum set up and positioning
You could also angle your drums sideways near the front/right side of the stage. I've been at some recent concerts (Will Kennedy, Mike Portnoy, etc.) where this was a good option for visibility and...

Probably because you were playing on an Export bass drum!
Hitting cardboard would sound heavenly when played with that bass drum! :)

Re: Time After Paying A Fill
Great questions. I've been doing it for so many years now that I principally hear the upbeat when I turn the click on.
To start, you should count one -AND two-AND three-AND four-AND to really...

This was the best thing I ever did to having solid time....

Not sure how long you have been playing, your goals (gigs, recording, practicing in the basement, etc.) or what type of music you enjoy playing. All of these...
