To my ears it sounds like the reso is lower than the batter, can anyone confirm this or...

yeah i personally would never use steel wool on chrome.

while its true that chrome is stronger than steel wool, its not the proper tool for the job. a little elbow grease will do the trick so...

I went to buy some kind of brass supraphonic yesterday but i ended up buying a Dunnett stainless steel that caught my eye and ear

Ill have to wait to a little longer for the brass...

and how about the sound? does the nickel plating change the sound that much compared to the chrome over brass?

also could the nickel plating help prevent pitting in the long term?

These two snares seem to me very similar but they are priced at like $100 difference. I know the BB has a nickel plating, but can that really account for the $100?

I found this 1970's Supraphonic at a local 2nd hand music store, Music Go Round, for a low price and buffed it up, replaced the heads and snare wires, and restored it to near mint condition.

I took a new gretsch mahogany snare 12x8" in gold foil wrap ($90 new at guitar center after a price drop), took the badge and the wrap off (using a hairdryer and exacto knife), removed the glue...

Also forget the avalon part its a gretsch catalina maple snare. I almost bought an ocdp avalon and I guess I was thinking of that snare when I was writing that post

So I found a cheap gretsch catalina avalon snare 14"x6" all the right dimensions for the wood hoops and the right price. I plan on stripping the wrap and finnishing the shell in a darker wood color....

go to youtube and type in the crashes you think you are interested in. you can narrow down your choices from there. then go to guitar center and try them out. when it comes to finding your sound...

Depends on the sound your looking for. I think what your describing is called wash riding. Medium thin crashes are great for rock. I love my sabian studio crash but you should compare a few online...

I have 2.3 mm triple flanged on the resonant side of my toms for a nice compromise on sustain and focused tuning with perhaps a lean towards sustain and safehoops on the top of the toms...
