Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

I have a Zildjian Rock 21 ride cymbal and a set of Paiste 2002 SoundEdge 14" hats from the early 70's ('73?) that I still use with my Sonor kit.

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

I read an interview with Rick Laird, bassist for Mahavishnu Orchestra, a while back. He was asked what it was like to play with the other members. He said something to the effect of....."I set the...

Re: New for Ludwig in 2019?

You have a point on some of your legacy examples but some of your more blatant generalizations are a bit extreme. I disagree on the Gretsch inclusion. Their new Brooklyn line is excellent and a...

Re: New drum kit

Nice kit !! Yeah, it's a matte finish but it still has 2 coats of clear lacquer on it. The gloss finishes have 5. Enjoy. Prolites sound great.

Re: 42-strand snare wires

Pure sound also makes 24 strand wires. Just sayin'. I used those on a Gretsch Bronze USA and they sounded phenomenal.

Re: Jan Hammer (?)

Yep, Jordan Rudess, Fernando Saunders on bass. My buddy Rick Bell (sax) played with Fernando in one of Lou Reed's bands.

Re: Jan Hammer (?)

He's a bad mofo. Genius musician. He plays drums on Jeff Beck's Wired album in addition to the C&E Music album mentioned above. He's the drummer on Blue Wind which is no easy track to play, although...

Re: New for Ludwig in 2019?

Sounds like you're describing the Gretsch Brooklyn shells. 6ply maple poplar no rerings.

You mean as opposed to those Pork Pie badges with the little piggy face on them?

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I bought a new snare to use with my Gretsch Brooklyn kit. It's a 14x6 Hendrix Archetype Stave Walnut with S-hoops and Trick 3 position throw off. Satin finish with an abalone inlay. It is just...

Re: Help with hand pain, stiffness

Things that have helped me. Alleve (2 before the gig), frozen water botttles to hold while on break, or bag of ice (right knee) and lastly, any type of drum hoops (s-hoops, mapex sonic saver, sonor...

Re: 2018 Black Friday drum Deals?

Remember too that there are MAP prices for certain brands. You're best off calling your favorite shop(s) to get the best price on something you might want that isn't part of their 'net sale.

Re: Sonor Snare Drums Video - SQ2, Phonic Reissue and One of a Kind

Those were my two favorites as well. Seriously, you can't go wrong with any of these. Just simply top of the range instruments. The shells, the throw, quality, and sound. I would put Sonor's dual...

Re: Just Back From a Ludwig Factory Tour... Any Questions?

Did you ask them when they're finally going to make a decent snare throw off? (runs for cover ;)

Re: I can't buy a high end snare drum

For me, it's finding one on sale like a black friday etc etc or scouring the 'net for a mint used one. You can also get demo priced snares that have been used just for an online video as opposed to...

Re: Between 3 kits....

That's kind of a head scratcher statement to me. By the time you swap out the heads and hoops you're probably paying close to what would be a Renown kit on sale.

Note to the OP: You're kind of...

Re: Drum & Cymbal Company Logos

I like the 60's Ludwig, Slingerland logos. Also the Sonor Vintage series script logo. Drop G Gretsch is really pretty. Today's logos are mostly all too big.

Check out Hendrix drums logo. Pretty...
