Re: Hoop comparison video from Tama

Great video. Exact opposite here. At least now I have zero doubt why I keep gravitating toward die cast! The brass would be next.

Re: PDP Snare QC question

It is exactly as it looks. Thatís totally messed up. PDP stuff for the most part is pretty solid and well made, but the every once in a while...Iíd definitely be pitching a fit with that one.

Re: Micing and Recording Tricks?

I had monitor out and headphone out unmuted, so I was effectively hearing the mix twice. Itís why there was so little different with the effects I was applying. It also sounded a bit more distant....

Re: Micing and Recording Tricks?

So, I just learned how to feed the DAW back into the mix. At least I know why things sounded a bit flat and distant in some regards. Loved the tom sound. It was very close to what I hear just tapping...

Re: Micing and Recording Tricks?

Funny! From all I've read here, everyone seems to be grossly unimpressed with any sound shaping on any videos, yet compression and EQ seem absolute necessities! I played around with the Garageband...

Re: Micing and Recording Tricks?

I've played around with things a bit more and got the toms sounding great. Pulled the mics back a bit, pointed the overheads away from toms and snare for less bleed through. Kick sounds better, but...

Re: No GAS

Iíve moved to mics and recording gear, so for the most part have all the drum dear I need or want. Funny part is, my gear is actually shrinking drum wise. It wasnít something I set out to do...

Re: Help with hand pain, stiffness

I'm surprised Larry didn't recommend Boron earlier. Definitely knocked back my arthritis. I was expecting to be able to play for additional 5 years max about 18 months ago, but the only thing that...

Re: 42-strand snare wires

Definitely less shell and head tone, but more buzz. Snares will activate at the lightest touch.

Re: Can't take PDP seriously somehow

That Concept Maple with wood hoops is tough to beat. Even if you decide you donít want to keep the wood hoops, itís the only set I can think of that you can get with more traditional sizes in that...

Re: Aluminum snare 14 inch die cast hoops

I got two sets. First set arrived as two batter side hoops, but second set is fine. Seller wasnít replying to my requests at all, so had eBay step in.

Iím not overly impressed with them. Chrome...

Re: Can't take PDP seriously somehow

I'll add a bit to this. I had issues with my PDPs, but that wasn't the norm. Never quite figured out why I had totally dead mounted toms that would go out of tune with a sneeze! That said, others...

Re: Can't take PDP seriously somehow

PDP aren't selling like they used to. Back when they were first introduced and for a decade later, there was DW $$$ and PDP $. Since DW now has $$$$, $$$, and $$ lines and PDP, $ and $$, the only...

I used to run an Aquarian Super Kick I and Aquarian Regulatir combo on my set with no additional muffling for years. When I got my new set, it came with. PS3 on the Batter and non ported Ambassador...

Re: Tune Bot - Worthwhile or Not?

Ive had my TuneBot for a while now and like it quite a bit. Love it when I’m tuning my snares to the exact same tone when playing around with heads and tuning etc. it really helps me to understand...

Re: How do I tell my friend that his expensive custom handmade snare is shit?

Thereís no mystery to stave drums being ďJohnny one notes!Ē Itís much more difficult to get them to be versatile than ply. I was watching a Mike Johnston episode and he had just received a stave...

Re: Thinking about double bass...

I had a double bass pedal on my set for at least 2 decades. I'd screw around with it, hammer out old metal songs, etc., but never could really use it in any live setting I played in and it ALWAYS...

Re: Heel up - arrrgh!

Don't have a picture, but it sounds like you may be sitting too low. I get that from the "leaning back" comment. Raising the seat should help. Also, there's nothing saying you HAVE to play heel up...
