Re: Question about drumming and dancing

No dancing here... I would look like the proverbial guy with two left feet... heck. I'm so clumsy I fall UP the stairs all the time!

I have no idea why I can play the drums.

Re: Is Ludwig Classic Maple tom's sound always vintage?

Modern Ludwig shells like the Classic Maples have fairly sharp bearing edges and thicker shells and will easily provide the "thoom" sound.

It's the vintage Ludwig drums and the new "Legacy...

Re: Under size hoop on 12" Pearl Vision tom.

I just brought home a Vision VSX kit for my son a few months ago and have had no such issues... The bearing edges, hoops, finish etc... all flawless. I put everything together - so I was able to...

Re: Gretsch Question

The big difference is that the QD kits come in very limited sizes and finishes. Options are limited too - no inlay on bass drum hoops etc... No other difference.

Re: Drum pricing all over the place?

Drums do not sell as easily as other musical instruments... That's one factor. Drum kits frequently sit around music stores and in warehouses for years before being purchased.

Also - keep in...

Re: Why is it the fashion to remove your low tom, and replace with a ride?

I look at it this way... I like to have the items I use close at hand and easily accessible. I play the ride far more than I would ever play a second rack tom - so the ride goes over the bass drum...

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple Vs Ludwig Vintage

Too deep? Legacy Classic kits are available in all the classic depths... Again - they are designed to reproduce the sound and feel of the originals. You can custom order a Legacy Classic kit in...

Re: Savior Custom Drums

Spiked lugs! Sounds like they would make for a dangerous environment on stage lol...
Uh oh - I just speared the bass player!

I guess I'm not sure I understand what differentiates most "custom"...

Re: Savior Custom Drums

Now we need a "ceiling cat drums" and "basement cat drums" just to round things out!

Re: 12" rack tom and 16" floor tom - thoughts?

FYI - My son's Pearl Vision VSX kit came 10 / 12/ 16. It's a cool configuration.

Oh - and I also roll with 12/ 16/ 22 myself - I like the larger gap between the rack and the floor.

Re: Ludwig Classic Maple Vs Ludwig Vintage

Hi there...

Firstly - if you want a modern approximation of Vintage Ludwig drums - then you want to look to the Ludwig "Legacy Classic" series not the Classic Maples. The Legacy Classics are thin...

Re: Bearing Edges

It won't be a mistake as long as whoever cuts the edges knows what they are doing. Get somebody with experience to do the work and explain exactly what you are looking for and it will be well worth...

Re: Left handed....

I have a buddy who plays like this - and he's very good - seems to work very well for him. My son (11 years old) is left handed - but is more comfortable playing right handed... I think everybody...

Re: Pete Thomas, Elvis Costello's drummer

Yeah - I think you may be correct... I think I have seen a Gretsch kit in a few early videos. White or WMP if IIRC.

Re: Pete Thomas, Elvis Costello's drummer

I've only seen him using DW kit's these days... I think he may have been a Ludwig guy during the "Attractions" years... but I'm not certain. I have seen some footage of him playing what looks like...

Re: Mom and Pop Drum shops

I love Dale's... I can drive there (I'm in SE PA) but it's an all day trip.

Heck, they have 2 FLOORS of drumkits! and an entire room full of cymbals. The place is bad for my finances.

Re: Mom and Pop Drum shops

Dale's Drum Shop near Harrisburg PA is a fine example of a fantastic stand alone drum shop.

Huge selection, knowledgeable courteous and professional staff.

Re: Best (most stable and strong) cymbal stand ever made? Brand/model?

I had a gigantic Tama boom stand in the early 90's that had the big metal counterweight at the end of the boom... man that thing was heavy and over built. I think I could have raised the cymbal up...

Re: Would You Spend The Money Custom Absolute??

These kits are totally different from a quality, construction, and tone standpoint... Yamaha's high end offerings are simply fantastic tubs - I think the price difference is certainly worth it.

Re: Bearing Edges

Check out Precision Drum Company... they have decades of experience re-cutting edges. You can send them the shells - and for a per-drum fee they will re-cut the edges. They also do re-covering work...

Re: What is the most high profile drum make?

I see more DW kits on TV and at big venues than just about any other brand these days. I've been seeing more custom appear kits over the bast 5 years or so though - like C&C etc...

Re: ...and a flute is just a tube with holes in it...

I'm sorry - I must disagree with the above...

Yes - on the surface drums might seem simpler, but if you are going to be a good drummer / percussionist, it's not nearly as simple as you are making...

Re: How to check out drums

The Memphis Drum Shop videos are actually very good for evaluating the sound of a particular kit... It is for the most part a very dry recording of the natural sound of the drums. If you are used to...

Re: ...and a flute is just a tube with holes in it...

Yeah... I get really tired of the "just drums" crap after a bit... Luckily, the guy I am playing for right now was a drummer before he was a guitarist / singer - so he writes his stuff with...
