Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

My Gibraltar story is a few months back I needed a set of tom isolation mounts, you know generic RIMS mounts. I could not locate a set anywhere online for sale, so I bought some real RIMS mount. I...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

If you don't mind, I'm gonna give this a shot. This is one way to do it. This is just for toms.

Put the drum on a carpet. Lay a fingertip dead center of the head (important!) and lightly tap the...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

There are definitely guys who can tune low and get a really good sound. I'm not dissing low tuning. Wet cardboard tone I will diss all day, but in the right hands, low tunings can sound really...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

This is actually a good point. The music would dictate the general tuning style.

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

Bonus, right? A higher tuned drum is much easier to play, and sounds better in the crowd. Win/win.

Re: Are our ears tuned to tradition?

The power of imprinting is far reaching. Pocket full of Gold....Jules....is a great example of imprinting. Jules...his dad is a drummer who plays a Supra. Jules was imprinted with the sound of a...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

This is what I arrived at from my experiences. Just talking toms here. Doesn't really apply to bass drum or snare.

For unmiced:

I tune to a higher note than you would think. It sounds on the...

Re: Bo rants!

Bo just curious, when the bass player blew up, how did the guitarist handle it?

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

I really learned a lot in this thread. Acceptance mainly. It's all good. Every generation is entitled to their culture.

Re: Yolanda Charles on drummers! :)

It's really hard to talk about Yolanda without mentioning her looks. Her and Mo are in the same class. Yolanda's English accent knocks it out of the park for me. Her bass playing is sublime, and...

Re: What is your opinion of this Billy Cobham review?

One mans opinion. There were probably hundreds of people there, all with an opinion too I bet.

Re: Tastes changed overnight

Pretty funny Hollywood. Who woulda thunk that Guru drums could be responsible for population increase. It's almost like they're Mapex Saturns. :P

Screw the fertility drugs, just give them a Guru...

You thought right, that is a beautiful snare tone. I'm glad the drum went to a worthy person.

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

Henri, I saw these guys do side 2 of Abbey Road (plus more) a few years ago. Stunning show. Every song had an instrument change. Average time between songs, 2 seconds. Unbelievable support crew doing...

Re: Drummers that can't tune drums.

1 in about 25. In my world, only about 1 out of every 25 drumsets I encounter are tuned decent. Maybe about 1 in 50 are tuned freakin awesome. The rest sound like crap to me.

Re: Tastes changed overnight

Pretty funny Ands. You Brits really have the pomp thing going on. Yes, it's been 437 days that you've been on my case about this. You took much too long to convince me and I mostly... no fully......

Re: Tastes changed overnight

Yes Louis, I record and play back, and save to my home server....every gig I've ever done. I have hundreds upon hundreds of hours of gig recordings going back to 2004.

I am only in one band now, a...

Tastes changed overnight

Just like that. For the last 11 years, a coated emperor or a coated G2 was the only snare head I would use. Coated ambassadors just sounded too thin to me.

Listening to a gig recording with my...

Re: Ain't no more fun...

Praise the Lord, get out of my face. What a great way to say that. Your avis are the best too.

Nice of you to play Rouge, hopefully it's a bit easier when you don't have to care about it anymore.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

I think it's maybe a little envy, maybe a little "they don't work as hard as I do" attitude, (whether it's true or not) but mainly it's a different generation with different mindsets. And yes it is...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

This whole thread needs to get the hell off my lawn lol.

One could look at it as keeping an open mind means accepting the degradation that is becoming the music industry. Like if you can't beat em...

Re: Does figured grain sound any better than non figured grain?

Or perhaps it could be so non-uniform as to sound...non-uniform lol.

Is that glass half empty or half full?

I've always wanted a birdseye set.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

I'll admit I don't really know, but I thought DJ's were cheaper than bands. If bands were cheaper, that's who gets hired, isn't that the determining factor?

Should they get the money they do? Hey...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

It's a younger generation thing that most older generation people don't want anything to do with. Life moves on. These same young people....when they reach their 50's, they probably won't like what...
