Re: The worst gig of my life

Another way to say 'infinity flexible' is 'lacking internal integrity'.

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

kinda catch 22...

How would I know unless I met him?

Remember...everything you have read or seen is part of his profession as an entertainer. I don't believe we could truly know who he is...

Re: RUSH retirement rumor

I'd go see them in Vegas...would be great if they made their show stationary...we'd go see 'em....and it would be less wear/tear/discomfort for them.

Re: Bands and tempo arguments

Its a rare musician that is satisfying to play with who can't keep time for themselves, in my opinion.

Re: Do you plan your fills?

I suggest continually trying new methods in your composition methods to help avoid getting stale.

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

I think the support given to music acts by labels in the removed past provided more than just time for musical development...it provided time for personal development.

Gaga's limited exposure to...

Re: Are there fewer demands for a drummer now, than before?

I think the observation that 'being a drummer is not the same as being a producer' might be helpful here.

...or an engineer.

Producing and engineering is more complex now - giving the pay-off...

Re: Bands and tempo arguments

I am really glad to see this truth being said more frequently.

Most of the musicians stating drummers hold responsibility for 'keeping time' are simply trying to create a dominance dynamic that...

Re: How many times have you been asked...

The time where I let another use my drum equipment like that I ended up having to replace most of the heads.

I don't rent out my equipment.

Re: Help! Left hand doubles in jazz comping

Practice moving an accent around each of the 3 notes in all possible combinations of a triplet when playing the triplet with one hand is helpful in later dropping the 'un-accented' note.

Same...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

I have yet to find a quiet yet faithful reproduction of a drum set that does not create bad habits when used extensively.

True sound insulation is a time and $ consumer...and renting makes it...

Re: Unanswered Threads

Kinda like playing in a mostly empty hall with no one paying attention.

We all have experienced it...and the wise decision is to keep at it and improve your audience appeal...or pack it in...or...

Re: This kit set up intrigues me

I switched to this type of config back in 1995(symmetric)...I highly recommend folks give it a try

...unless you find yourself always playing a house kit or someone else's at the venue.

Re: Drummers who play other instruments also....

I think cross training on various instruments will give perspectives you might not already have on your main instrument.

Degree of effect?...What it effects?...Timelines?....all subjective to the person/people/situation...of course.

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Physical or emotional abuse(lack of attention to 'do no harm') are NEVER to be tolerated...'Authority' allows no exception...as 'authority' is lost when morality goes out the door and you start...

I echo the suggestion to record then take the time to listen....and set a metronome up and lock it in...then see where the tempo goes and who is taking it there.

if its you, then start breaking...

Learning how to learn is what I would say is most important...

Avoiding burn-out, constant re-examination of your precepts and devising exercises....closely observing your playing via recording.

Re: Anti-Slip Drumsticks?
