Re: Drum & Cymbal Company Logos

Yeah - same here. That's why I bought into the Ahead bags. Same quality, but a cooler logo.

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

How many threads like this exist here? Or how many discussions like this are there? Who's great? Who isn't great? I think you don't really have to agree with anyone on who's the greatest, just...

Re: Some band drama

Thanks for the replies, but I think I know just how to deal with these guys. I just say "yes", and then plan my life forward anyway. If I have time to commit, then I do. With the holidays coming...

Re: Geeking out a little!

I did do this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2ZujEwyhlU

It was just done with a single overhead, and a mic about a foot infant of the bass drum. I should do one with just the Zoom Q8. It...

Re: NDD: Gretsch Brooklyn Cream Oyster

When I was given the chance to pick out my first Pearl kit, after just doing that, that felt like too much. Up until then, I bought used and had been quite happy with that. So much so I still do...

Re: NDD: Gretsch Brooklyn Cream Oyster

Can you imagine those guys who buy Sonor SQ2 or Pearl Masterworks kits? They get to choose woods, edges, finishes, sizes....that's total paralysis by analysis!

Some band drama

Well, maybe "drama leading up to band drama".

I've discovered I'm not good at this new band thing. For weeks (maybe months?) after an initial "audition" with these gentlemen I know through an...

Re: Geeking out a little!

Thanks!

I think a lot of people are guilty of neglecting the anchors on the pedal. What works even better is I put skateboard grip tape on the hoop where the pedal clamps on (inner and outer) and...

Re: Geeking out a little!

I think it is. I haven't been able to stop playing this kit yet. I'm getting in at least an hour a day since I got it up and running. We're also shopping for a new house, perhaps downsizing a bit...

Re: Geeking out a little!

That square plate I took off from one of the extra toms I had. It's a clip tom mount. It's the same size as the bass drum tom mount base. So rather than leave the bass mount, I decided to cover it...

Re: Geeking out a little!

Really? I just hold the front end of the drum up to where I want it, then drop each leg and tighten the wing screw.

Re: Good trade?

$150 is a good price for an Acrolite. But I guess the question is if you needed the kit, or you just want the snare. I take it you play out on another kit?

Geeking out a little!

I don't normally geek out on minor upgrades, but I figured since I have a Gretsch kit from 1972, I wanted to at least get the bass drum back to it's era-specific parts. I found some new Gretsch...

Re: Rimshots on die cast hoops

I would say it does for me "psychologically". Whereas if I see wood hoops I think "warm". But, in the grand scheme of things, when you play with a band, I just hear "drums".

Re: Thinking about double bass...

You never had to play "Honky Tonk Woman"? Or had to do real latin stuff? You're pulling our collective leg!

Re: Beginner's book?

Well, not really a book per se. But try finding a competent TEACHER. Don’t spend more $$$ on gear, spend it on private lessons. You’d be surprised how fast you get where you want to go with one.

Re: Top level guys that do local gigs

Of course they do. Ive seen Alex Acuna and other luminaries playing at their churches when theyre not busy. My buddy that played for Neil Diamond never says no to anything - because of the simple...
