Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

I wasnít interpreting your words Tony. Those are my thoughts on click and musicians.

Sometimes I wish we could just talk. The online experience is great and all but the ability to actually hear...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

I donít agree with that at all. Iím playing among fantastic professionals who all have extensive experience. Weíre still all on a click. As stated by others, the click isnít a crutch. Itís a guide....

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

Thatís why everyone needs to be on (usually). Having a click to the drummer only gets you only so far as the drummer has to control where ď1Ē is to the rest of the band if heís the only one who can...

Re: Hoops

+1 on cross-stick sound. My two snares are a wood-hooped DW 6.5x14 which even with wound up Heavyweight Evans/Hazy300 still sounds ridiculously fat and a 2ng Gen Pearl FF which is the perpetual...

Re: The thing you bought but you never use

LP 'Wood' block (it's the red plastic one)...and louder than the entire kit. I rest my phone on it as it sits on a stand with 3/4 other things that currently collect dust.

Re: Snare drum keeps going out of tune?

I used TightScrews on a Maryland snare. I only replaced three or four on the top hoop at 6,7, & 8 o'clock...which were the main culprits of loosening up. It's a pain in the butt to do a batter head...

You mean Wynton Marsalis?

Just said that jazz...

Oh forget it. Youíre not worth the time it takes to explain anything...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

What exactly is your problem? Why the troll?

Yes I am asking that. I donít know what that is and would love to learn but I donít understand your attitude?

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

Not quoting here but closing ones opinion to successful ventures and techniques that do and have worked for many decades just means you’re closed-minded. Not your cup of tea, fine. Don’t use a click....

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

Everything I'm doing now is to a click, normally with backtracks - usually all slammed together in AbletonLive. when we need to go off the backtrack for presses and fill-in/background stuff, another...

Re: Tama Club Jam

I ordered the Cocktail Jam kit a few weeks back via Sweetwater. Waiting on the Orange Bursts to come into stock and ship (should be any time now actually). Some of the public footage (youtube)...

Re: Where Do You Position Your Beater

Ditto. I have it placed based on where it ended up when dialing the pedal in. I don't change it regardless of which kit I put it on and am regularly changing kits depending on where I am playing...

Re: Worship drummer - variety?

Check out Planetshakers. Kind of pop-ish feel good but I’d say they’ve got an eccentric sound and their arrangements are uncommon and innovative. Drummers in the modern worship community have...

Re: 20 years of Drum Set Evolution Summed up

I think the science of it all is still relatively the same. Mechanically, things are basically always going to be the same with improvements to design and functionality as you might guess. A few new...

Re: deleted social media

I understand, but turning it off might not necessarily be the answer over just making it work. I suppose though a reality check on what kind of ROI vs time and effort invested is appropriate first. ...

Re: deleted social media

Anyone who isn't embracing a social presence online is behind. W-A-Y behind. Like, you're a dinosaur.

I'm not saying that you need to be GaryV or some kind of Social Media Infulencer (yeah,...

I remember a long while ago, thinking to myself that I had such a great sound (while playing the kit) and then realizing later that it was all sorts of what I didn’t want when I was listening to the...

Re: The sound you like most...

I don’t spend time doing anything with my IEM sound other to make sure the right levels are in the mix (click, vocal, EG, AG, Bass). And have done the same...listening to someone else just play some...

Re: The sound you like most...

Fine tuning a little.

Knowing that a kit sounds different when you're playing it than it does when you're listening to it being played...bridging what you think you know when tuning it to what it...

Re: Great tape to cover blisters

Got most of my blisters in the early years when I was growing my callous gloves I wear today...they prevent most blisters.

As far as tape goes, I never really used anything. Just tore off the...

The sound you like most...

- your kit in your IEMs (or whatever sound support you use - monitor, nothing)
- your kit while someone else is playing it and you're standing on the 'outside'
- your kit through the board...

Re: Just quit a band on Christmas Day

Well, it's certainly better than having a revelation during a show and quitting in the middle of the set by possibly having a Dave Grohl moment; pitching and tossing instruments about, then yelling...

Re: Cocktail kit

The Jam kit has a great amount of appeal with it being a nesting set of shells in one bag and the hardware in the other. Just a throne and whatever extras are required.

Listening to YT vids of...
