Re: Drum gear gimmicks that didn't really catch on

A few off the top of my head on my lunch break:

- Tama Air Ride snare stand
- Drum frame
- I remember a brand of shoes designed for drummers; I recall an ad with Dave Weckl as an endorser. ...

Re: Opinions on Pearl Decade Maple 13-16-24

Thanks for the input. What are your thoughts on installing thicker hoops on that floor tom? Think that would help with the issues you described? Thanks to Larry, I found 6 lug 2.3 mm hoops for...

Re: Opinions on Pearl Decade Maple 13-16-24

Re: Opinions on Pearl Decade Maple 13-16-24

Hi Snick, thanks for responding. Yeah, I should have just cut to the chase, the floor tom is what I was most curious about. 6 lugs with thin hoops on a drum that size is puzzling. My initial...

Opinions on Pearl Decade Maple 13-16-24

I’m looking at a great deal on a used Pearl Decade Maple kit in the sizes listed above. I’m intrigued at the thought of adding this kit to complement my 12-14-20 kit for certain situations (plus my...

Re: Can you tell a big difference?

I currently own both an older Stage Custom with the mixed shells and the one piece lugs, along with the current version of the Stage Custom, Both kits are 10-12-14-20; toms have different depths. I...

Re: Making the jump to two bass drums!

Gotcha. Are those coated G2s on the toms? How are you liking them?

Re: Making the jump to two bass drums!

The Session kit isn't gone already, is it?

Re: Anyone ever switch your "brand loyalty?" (Mid-life crisis for me?)

I think as time goes on our tastes can change and evolve. In my case, I’ve always gravitated towards brighter cymbals (typically Zildjian A’s with a few Sabian AAs/AAXs along the way). Never was...

Re: Instrument infatuation

I've come to embrace the challenge of playing backline kits or kits that belong to other drummers. Last summer, at a very large local club, my band opened for 2 different touring cover bands in the...

Re: Next Stage Custom?

They may very well hold up fine. I see some flex where the spurs telescope out of the housing. Time will tell, but I thought I would mention it. I’ve been using Yamaha hardware for many years, and...

Re: Next Stage Custom?

Boy did this thread get derailed. Some final comments from an owner of a current version stage custom:

- Good kit for the money
- there are cost cutting measures to achieve this price point
-...

Re: Being sensible and a Pearl SSC kit ;)

I appreciate you putting those links in, but I’ve seen those vids before. Mr. Eder has both of these kits in the same house, sitting across from each other. Yes, some forum members bust his chops...

Re: Being sensible and a Pearl SSC kit ;)

Bo, since you’ve had time to settle in with the 2 new kits (sheesh!), I (and maybe others as well) would like to get your take on how they compare to each other. Does the kapur really add the warmth...

Re: Struggling with Renowns

Your drums sound great TK. Really like the combination of warmth and attack youíre getting with the coated Ambs. I recently went back to clear 2 ply heads because I wanted more attack, but youíre...

Re: Moving on

You’ve been with this band for 8 years; when did all this start? Was it recent? You don’t strike me as the kind of guy to put up with shenanigans like this long term. I had similar issues with a...

Re: Next Stage Custom?

I have a Stage Custom Birch in the natural finish, and I would also like to finish the hoops. Not sure if I just need to brush on a clear coat or use a light stain first. If anyone would like to...

Re: Calling All Rogers Experts

Agreed on the spurs not being original. Can't say about the bass drum hoops as I really don't know much about Rogers drums. Not too concerned about that stuff; I'm more into player's kits versus...

Re: Pearl Masters BCX demo video

Nice playing, as always, and the drums sound great! I like the wet attack you're getting with the clear heads.

It has been about 25 years since I did a sight reading big band type gig. Sounds like you held your own; I probably would have been lost lol. Glad it went well for you; maybe coated ambassadors are...

Re: New Drums Weekend!

Yes Captain Obvious, I read what the sizes are. I said they LOOKED LIKE power toms in the pic, possibly due to the camera angle, not "hey look guys, power toms!!"

Re: New Drums Weekend!

Maybe it's just the angle of the pic, but they look like power toms. I like birch drums myself; I hope you do too. Maybe you can come back after spending some time with the birch drums and give us...

Re: Why is it called "Decade" Maple?

This line will be replaced by another line, or maybe just renamed, in 10 years or less.
