Re: Premier APK 12 / 14 / 20

Meant to upload a pic or two from the early APK years. Don't have any recent Premier catalogs and haven't played on or owned any of the newer APK/XPK drums. Sorry to drone on, but there just aren't...

Re: Premier APK 12 / 14 / 20

Yep, knew most of that. Things were a bit fuzzy in the beginning, though. The were called "Royale APK when they came out around 1985ish. Then name changed to just APK (1988?) while the XPK came...

Re: Premier APK 12 / 14 / 20

Agreed. Do you know what year or years they were made. Premier did/does have a habit of changing the wood used to make their drums. Those look fairly recent though early ones were made of Mahogany...

Re: Premier APK 12 / 14 / 20

So these are the new APKs or a used kit?

Re: Premier APK 12 / 14 / 20

I have an early set of the XPKs (1990) that I used to play live in 2014/15. Mine has the deeper power toms (10/12/13). Much higher quality for the money as it was used when I got it.

Don't know...

Re: How do you know it's time to quit your 9-5?

Sans a record contract, I’m siding with the cautious group. Moving into an apartment with four other bros is for 22 year olds. That’s not where you’re at.

Re: The Cheap Snare Thread

Well, there's cheap and then there's CHEAP. Top snare is my trusty travel companion - 1981 Premier Model 1005, COS. Paid 100 bucks including shipping, hard plastic case and rudimentary stand.

Re: Eric Clapton Hearing Woes

The fans gotta watch out too. Went to Sooooo many metal concerts in the 80s. And my buddy Randy always wanted to stand next to the speaker stacks on the left side (stage right). Lost 25% of the...

Re: If budget weren't a problem, what drum set would you get?

+1. Oooor maybe a Pictures of Lily kit Premier made for Keith Moon. I just like the sound and response from vintage gear.

Re: Best travel kit recommendations

I guess issue one is cost. How much do you want to spend? If money were no object and I needed a small gig kit it would probably be a used Sonor Prolite. Should cost about 1500 pounds.

They're...

Re: Need Information on This Drum Set

Hi David. A lot depends on what you want the set for. Simply owning any drum kit versus not owning one will improve your chops for sure.

As for the the APK, I own an XPK and am very pleased I...

Re: Can anyone help me with this antique drum?

The drum itself could have been from whatever years that company was in business. But the catalog is from about 1900. Look on page 14 and you'll see the warranty card with the last year yet to be...

Re: Can anyone help me with this antique drum?

While I can't say anything about that brand, I did dig through all my pre-war Premier (English maker) catalogs and found that style. 1930 would be my educated guess.

I have Premier catalogs...

Re: Interesting Ringo snippets

Sources have given two primary reasons for the switch to Ringo from Pete Best.

1 is that Ringo just kept better time

2 is that Paul thought that Pete was better looking than he

I'm sure I...

Re: Interesting Ringo snippets

I think for most people, music is a cycle. I went to Metal and Hair Band concerts in the 1980s (geez, how many black concert tee-shirt can one kid OWN?), Rock, Alt, Ska and in the 1990s and whatever...

Re: Interesting Ringo snippets

Ringo is the prototype for playing exactly what the song requires. Amazing.
