Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Re: Comparing oneself to others (drummers)

Dont compare yourself to others, the only person you truly compete against is yourself. Try to be a better drummer next month than you were last month. Simple, and something YOU have control over,...

Re: Some forum members dropped in today :)

David may be handsome, but that is more than offset by his dress sense. Oh, and the facial hair. Yin and Yang I suppose. Gives us less attractive males a chance. Ha ha. (only joking about the...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Hi Tony, long time no speak. Anyway, I am with you all the way mate. I love funky grooves as does the bass player. I have no Idea what the guitarist is after, but If its not me then so be it. ...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Jazzers are up there own a***s. I recently joined my bass playing mate for a first try out with what was promised, to me anyway, a Jazz Funk project. The guitarist, who styles himself as the...

Re: Cover Band Drummists - How accurate are you?

The band I am in now are dead set on doing covers in a different way to the original. We feel there are lots of bands doing copy covers, and lots of blues bands out there, so the only way to stand...

Re: Talking salespeople down in price

I dont haggle in owner occupier shops, as long as the price is ok, these people dont make a lot of money. I always haggle with chain stores as they have the muscle to get stuff cheaper from the...

Re: Straying out of my comfort zone

I do all my practice on an E kit. Think "No dynamics". You can get really carried away but the volume stays pretty much the same.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

Thats not strictly a form of music. Even if it was I would not go to see a guy standing in front of a laptop. Whats to see?

As for not liking a genre of music, I hate rap. I have heard lots...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Exactly my point, a spoon and a fork are not the same implement are they? Drum sticks are though.

I am not arguing trad grip is bad, I am just pointing out it means doing two different actions to...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Well quite, but I suspect you would hold a spoon, or indeed a hammer, the same way with each hand.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

As I say, that can be the only reason, cos technique wise it has to be adding another layer of difficulty to playing. What I meant was, If you started playing with a marching band then fair enough,...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Trad grip? Its for playing a marching drum. That's the ONLY reason the left hand is used that way, to reach over the drum. When playing a regular kit, with a standard snare, there is no reason...

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

/\ Quite.

It is well documented that on the "Double White" the Beatles were rarely, If ever, all in the studio at the same time, and a lot of the tracks were in fact "Solo" efforts. Paul was...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

[/B]

Argh......my personal nightmare. If a band cant at least start and finish a song at the same time it is beyond irritating. A song is not nailed till the ending is agreed. Or is that just a...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

Sounds fair and reasonable. . Apologies for asking but without the full story it sounded a bit odd to me. If you are still dissatisfied with your current band could this one be a goer?

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

As for the "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles"......well ,the famous Beatles banter and John's sledge hammer wit.

Was George the best lead guitarist/vocalist around? No
Was John...

Re: played (maybe joined) in blues band

It would be interesting to know why you placed an add for musicians, had an audition with a band, and then say you don't have time for two bands? Not trying to be difficult, just a genuine question....

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

You are Bernard Purdie and I claim my 5

I can play "I feel fine" as the recording, no problem, and I am a rubbish drummer. Are you suggesting Ringo could never play as the record? Get real. ...
