I bought what appears to be a 60s or 70s Zildjian A 18" cymbal. no cracks and little keyholing, sounds pretty good. medium weight. it's almost like a crash/ride. $90

Re: Mapex Pro M for 300?

I bought a 6pc with cymbals and hardware for $450 several years ago. Basically new condition, sold all of it for $700...$400 for just shells. Didn't care for the drums, but not terrible for that...

Re: My fills are always in 8th notes/slower note rates, help!

As Jojo Mayer pointed out long ago, maybe try soloing in 16th notes and do not play anything but 16ths. Or triplets, play 100% triplets. Stay musical. It takes a lot of time and practice, and...

Re: My speed has stalled

As I went through learning the rudiments and so forth, really mastering some of them ( so I thought), practice became more about approach and how loose I could hold the sticks in my hand, how fluid...

Re: Good trade?

Just for the snare (after selling cymbals and stand), it doesn't sound like a great deal.

However if keeping all of the gear, I think it's a decent trade.

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

Thanks for all of the links. Keep 'em coming too :)

One of the first more "tricky" grooves I learned was that "50 ways" , I'm sure for others too.

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

Yeah I read that book many years ago, decades ago probably. He and Peter Grant were not particularly nice.

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

The best drummers in the world can be defined by era, to a degree.

Much like 18th century intellectuals weren't as intelligent as the average 21st century college grad from modern universities,...

Re: Jim Gordon

This is a decent sounding group of Zappa bootlegs. Be-bop Tango from Father Oblivion at 42:00 goes into a big solo. What a damn drummer!

Re: Anybody rockin 13-16-20?

My current config is 13/16/20. 13" 60's Ludwig, 16/20" 50's Leedy. However I often remove one or both toms.

The bass drum has emperor coated batter and it's tuned to Bb iirc, the 16" and 13" tend...

UPS is very safe and easy work..I know this as a fact. ;)

Re: How hard is it to start playing well?

The problem with playing "just rock" and becoming a very good drummer, is that most of the really great rock drummers were also versed if not fluent in other styles, including jazz. You can become a...

Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

Did anyone else notice how wildly the tempo varied from the beginning of the referenced track, to the end? Certainly became less sludgy as the song went along.

Re: Being offered a position you don't really want, but could be an experience?

Funny, I had just read this craigslist ad too. The ad seemed fairly non-committal, jmo.
