Re: & all is well in the world again! :)

You don't get that good at their age without the support and encouragement of your parents, so hats off to them too. I reckon they're doing it right!

Drumming and tennis

So - the "so" is intentional - I'm watching Wimbledon, and I'm struck (I'm here all week, folks) by the precision-perfect timing of the players, despite the irregularity of the bounce.

Do tennis...

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Not many people can call me "dear" and live to tell the tale. You're special, Larry xxxx

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Straight back at you, Daisy! Girl power is all well and good, but throw in a few more decades and I reckon there isn't much that we can't do between us! xxx

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Thanks Martin!

Haha! Here begins my bid for world domination, and it's your fault ;)

I certainly will, if it comes off :)

Eek - where did it all go right?

Pretty much nothing is happening with my first band. We have a gig in August, our first since October, and after that probably nothing.

Things are, however, hotting up with the 40's-style band I...

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

It's not so much about you sticking with the instrument, as the instrument sticking with you. Your decision will be made for you.

I "stuck with" piano for 45 years, and I've played drums for...

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

Hello and welcome to DW and to drums :)

There's no way of telling whether or not you'll stick to drums. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with trying an instrument and then giving it up if it...

Re: When disaster strikes: Your opinion

I've seen the photos of the wildfires by you, Al :( Stay safe.

To answer your question: obviously pets would be my first priority, then a couple of paintings - not valuable, but irreplaceable -...

Re: How tense are you when you play?

At a gig, as far as I can remember (it's been too long), the weather is perfect, as long as I look good, feel comfortable, my shoes don't pinch, I have the right sticks, and my cymbals are the right...

Re: Singers and percussion

Well, it obviously is more difficult than I realised, so fair enough. We play a couple of numbers where I have to join in the singing and one where I have to speak whilst playing. The singing ones...

Re: Singers and percussion

Well yes, that's what I can't get my head around: there's nothing wrong with her timing.

Absolutely. Singers are odd! I thought it was just guitarists, lol.

Singers and percussion

In both my bands, we play one or two songs that I think would sound nice with a bit of hand percussion (eggs), but both singers are adamant that they can't shake eggs and sing at the same time. One...

Re: Trinity Guild Exams

Make friends with a drummer who can let you play their kit! Ask at your local music shop, if you have one. Go to your local jam night. Ask at the nearest school. Put an ad in the corner shop. ...

Re: You and your practice regimen, come clean

I practise most days, geography and time permitting, sometimes just for a few minutes, sometimes for hours, cumulatively: I might do 40 minutes or so, have a cup of tea and a quick DW catch-up, then...

Re: Self Indulgent Ego Massage....

Wow, what an accolade! I imagine you are far from being the only drummer he knows so I can only agree with what other people are saying: he must have good reasons to choose to ask you. How...

Re: Preparing for the first gig

Make sure that the clothes you intend to wear are going to be comfortable to drum in - for example, you don't want the bass drum beater to get caught in your trouser leg because they're the wrong...

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

I think Mike has hit the nail on the head here. Timing should be RIGHT - not necessarily "correct", and there are many things that might influence its rightness, not least what the other band...
