Re: Preparing for the first gig

I second the carpet because it's easy to forget especially if you use the same carpet that your drums set on in your practice space. The only time I came close to forgetting mine, I was still within...

Re: Drum fads: Past, present...and future?

OK, maybe it's not a fad but I thought it would be a fad the first time I saw them 20+ years ago in Modern Drummer graced by Tommy Lee and Matt Sorum....

Easton Ahead Sticks...

I can't judge...

Re: Playing in a Bar - Length of Sets/Breaks/Hours

Venues in my area almost exclusively play 9pm to 1am (some are 8:30pm to 12:30am.)

The trend used to be doing 4-45 minute sets with 15 minute breaks. And some bands still do this.

But most...

Re: Updated Tama Roadpro Snare Stand model #?

Thanks! I did catch that on there and will likely order it. The only thing that raised an eyebrow to the HS80 model is that my local GC has it in stock.

However, we all know that newer model...

Updated Tama Roadpro Snare Stand model #?

Hey guys,

I've had an old Tama Roadpro snare stand for almost 20 years now. Great piece of hardware.

I'm looking to purchase a new one and use my old one as a spare. I like the idea of...

Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

Unfortunately this is the nature of the beast. A guy at my work (who plays in a KISS Tribute band) and I were discussing this the other day. We feel that in a few years, there will be virtually no...

LP Percussion compatibility with Tama L-Rod

Hey guys,

I've had a few pieces of LP percussion (cowbell, Cyclops tamb, and a Jamblock) for many years all mounted to an LP Mini Everything rack (with the Z-Rods).

First of all, the rack...

Covering a song with band above my skill level (Opinions on hitting the "key" points)

Hey Guys,

I'm not a good drummer by any means. I never took a lesson or practiced rudiments and just always have been in a cover band and learned songs, played gigs, etc.... I REALLY do work hard...

Holy Drum Hoarder Batman!

Hey guys, this location is only 30 minutes from me here in St. Louis, MO. Unfortunately the riots in Ferguson are also the same distance. :(

If I go to this place.....my 6 month old daughter...

Re: How do you feel the day after a gig?

I'm usually useless for the weekend after a show, but we only play 12-20 a year. We always book shows on Fridays (because I work early Sunday morning.)

I wake up at 4am for work on Fridays and...

Re: Drumming with newborn baby

I'm in the same boat as the original poster.

I got back into drums about 2 years ago (after a 10+yr layoff) with a new found passion for playing. My skills were improving and I was more solid...

Re: What's your favourite metal/ rock beat?

Since RHCP has been brought up several times, I love the groove in Suck My Kiss. I've never played it in a live setting (I think the bass players are afraid to tackle anything by Flea), but I love...

Re: Any information regarding Gretsch Black Hawk drum set

I realize that this is an old thread revived by the above poster but I have a bit to offer...

My first drumkit was a Gretsch Blackhawk. It was a black 5 piece (22-12-13-16 and a 14 snare) and was...

Re: How do you not hear your bass drum?

I have issues hearing my bass drum at shows too. Rarely do I play a venue where I can fit a monitor near me. I run the PA so I always end up overdoing it and putting way too much bass drum in the...

Re: Quick question about Smashmouth-All Star drum beat

Thanks for the replies. I like to try to get covers somewhat accurate within my ability, but as New Tricks stated, you can pretty much do whatever within the realm of the tempo and keep the time on...

Quick question about Smashmouth-All Star drum beat

Hey guys,

My new band is getting ready to cover Smashmouth's All Star. I'm not very experienced but I do check out all my resources to learn a song including repeated listening (obviously),...

Re: "Stuck" bass drum spur

The thread itself is fine. The wingnut loosens/tightens smoothly.

And the shaft itself is fine, but it's more of the "notches" that nest in several positions of the spur. VERY hard to explain...

"Stuck" bass drum spur

Hi guys,

Quick question, hopefully I'm phrasing it well.....

Getting back into drumming, I bought a Tama Silverstar about 2 years ago. Love it and have been gigging with it over the past year...

Re: Drumming Idiosyncrasies

My wife would KILL me if I didn't wear my ring to a gig. (Although I don't wear it to gym because it hurts when I grip the bar.)

I have to have empty pockets as well. Keys/wallet/phone go under...

Re: Drums - the stage prop du jour (Grammies content)

TOO FUNNY! I'm glad someone else appreciated this. My wife and I were watching the Grammy's and as soon as Katy Perry came on, I said, "Holy $hit, it's the Knights Who Say Ni!"

I was a bit...

Re: Practicing rudiments without a pad or metronome. Bad idea?

Check this out. It does make sound but if you turn the volume off, it still gives you the flashing cues by highlighting the accents that you select.

Re: # of gigs in 2013?

As a new band, we started in March and didn't play ANY in December. In those 9 months we did 17 paid gigs plus 2 charity gigs. WAY more than I figured we'd get as new musicians on the scene so I'm...

Hey Larry, I have an LP Vibra-Slap (never incorporated into my drumset.....just a goofy sound effect laying around the practice room.)

I have a cymbal stand to the left of my high hat that...
