Re: Traveling Drumset

Best option? Get a practice kick pad and a snare practice pad.

Few "traveller" kits are small enough to pack in a suitcase and they will weigh quite a bit, costing you a lot of money in excess...

Re: Modern Metal songs with the "best" Drums

Slayer's crossover into death metal with Divine Intervention. Killer drumming and album

I think the Pantera albums also fit into the 20-year cutoff. Some really innovative approaches to groove on...

Re: Hand Pain

Also, if you are in extreme discomfort now, just take a break from the drums and let your hand heal. And when you return, work on an appropriate sticking technique/grip as suggested. Do not play if...

Of course, I have no idea about the improvements you've suggested. Might be something,...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I think your spell check is broken, Bermuda. Even spell check is two words.

Re: The Speed Obsession

Are you obsessed about groove? Are you obsessed about power? Are you obsessed about control? Are up obsessed with dynamics?

Pick a card. any card.

Midi - Useful for live, useless for recording drums aka a long way to go

I thought this was worth discussing, considering the difficulty I've been having trying to put together a demonstration of my pedal triggers, as requested by a couple of our dear forum members. I was...

Re: More amazing Simon - "most farmer's wives in Bulgaria dance in 9/8"!

Dude, that was awesome. What a beautiful and groovy sounding piece.

And at around the 2:00 mark, I think we have the conclusive evidence we've been looking for that everyone needs a double bass...

Re: I Play Better When I Donít Practice

I think you're worrying too much about regimenting your practice sessions. On account of that, you assert that a day or two of rest helps you focus better.

I'll counter that statement by pointing...

Re: Audio only snare drum comparison between...

This happens all the time to me. I create something, I record it immediately. Because I know the material so implicitly, I think it sounds great on the recording because I'm listening for all the...

Re: Just a G.A.S. observation

GAS can be considered a "disease" sort of like gambling is a "disease". Or a harmful habit if you'd prefer, for some people it really is.

You probably don't see a lot of stories about people...

Re: How many bpms can you cat play?

I had a cat once. It ran away because someone else was feeding it. I wonder who that a**hole was, because when we saw it again, it had become so fat and lazy, that I doubt it could drum like the cat...

Re: Drumming with repetitive strain injury (RSI)

This sort of thing is every drummer's nightmare. I'm glad you're persevering and hope you are able to continue doing so.

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

Really interesting survey results, mainly #2s and #3s.

I'm a #7, so I seem to be in hallowed company, haha.

Re: Songs that make you do a double-take when you sit to down to play them

It might not even be on account of ability. Some of that stuff is just really complicated in terms of the number of changes and time signatures. You have to keep count and have each change ready in...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Drummers need to tone it down. I mean, how obnoxious is an instrument that makes more sound when you hit it harder. Hit it softer! Softer!

Re: Songs that make you do a double-take when you sit to down to play them

This is slightly off-topic, but since it was the first response to the thread:

When you're playing something as a "tribute" to a famous band like Iron Maiden, I don't see any scope for just doing...

Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

That actually is a pretty damn good thread by a guy who builds drums.

As far as the thread topic, I can't tell based on what one builder said. It probably has a lot of truth to it, but other than...

Re: Irony?

A death row pardon
Two minutes too late

Seems pretty ironic to me, especially if you think about things like a lyrical licence. Some of the other parts don't fit into the definition of irony,...

Songs that make you do a double-take when you sit to down to play them

I'm sure everybody's had an experience like this: you approach a song for your band thinking, "This should be easy" and when you actually listen to it closer, you're like, "Woah, I think I'm going to...

Re: The "I wish I hadn't opened my big mouth" thread ;)

If things go badly, you can always trash the kit on stage in a fury, then straighten up and say, "I meant to do that",

My advice is "More cowbell". It seems to be a safety net in situations like...

Re: Would you notice quantized drumming in a video?

There are drum replacement softwares that can chop up an audio track into separate hits for kicks, snares, etc.

With midi, it's even simpler. Just drag things here and there.

This kind of...

Re: Can you sit comfortably at an E-kit?

I have the opposite problem. I'm more familiar to playing e-kits, so when I sit on an acoustic drumset, I always have trouble arranging things so that I can reach them.
