Re: Need help with memorizing songs and cymbal crashes

To Mr. IkeBongo, remember that if you do miss a crash, as long as you keep good time, it doesn't sound nearly as bad as you may imagine.

Also, FWIW, in addition to listening to the song a hundred...

Re: In case anyone hasn't seen this yet... Bermuda and Dom

That was a great real life insight into the life of a drummer in a very rare category, meaning a drummer that's been with the same guys in the same band pushing 40 years now.

Forty years. That's...

Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

That is a great cymbal. I have one from the early 2000's. It just has that sound I like. There are some things I won't give away and that's one of them.

Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

I have a great cymbal stand from the early 70's. It's really light, single braced, it has a non geared tilter and the best part...there's thick white nylon bushings built into the tubes protecting...

Re: Cool breathing trick

My diaphragm sticks out further when I fully inhale when I have my palms up. Also, you are supposed to do this sitting with your back being arrow straight. Try it again sitting up as straight as you...

Re: Playing different UNRELATED tempo's simultaneously?

There's guys that can do that. It's an admirable feat of coordination but IMO fairly useless in real world application.

At least in 2018.

Re: Tama Star Drums - Bubinga, Maple and Walnut In-depth Review

I'm definitely a walnut nut. What's surprising to me is that walnut has a really great high end to it. It's so balanced to my ear.

With my new band the walnut snare is the go to. I used the...

Re: Tama Star Drums - Bubinga, Maple and Walnut In-depth Review

Hey Shane, thanks again for taking the time. I like the maple the best. Then the walnut. Wait, walnut the best, maple after that. Wait...

Great comparison at the end. Nice tuning job too. They...

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

A Ludwig Accent kit was in a backline I played once and I was shocked at how satisfying I thought it sounded. I remember thinking...my DW's have nothing on these.

I don't care too much what kind...

Re: Tama SLP Dry Aluminum vs Acrolite?

Acrolites aren't for everyone. I drank the Acrolite Kool-Aid. I had a 67 model and IMO it was one of the least satisfying drums I played. Sold it with a 66 Ludwig set I had. I also had a new 14 x 6.5...

Re: Oriollo Spun Copper Kit- Preview Thread

That tone!

That is the only tone I've heard that IMO can top what I have. Big fan of metal toms and kick. Metal has a great attack.

Words fail. Just incredible sounding drums. Vukan is a force...

Re: Software to chart / notate

Another vote for Sibelius. It's what you use to notate and chart/write out music.

There's a bit of a learning curve though. For me at least.

Re: Cool breathing trick

Yes, yoga. That's exactly why they invert the forearms. Yoga is all about the breath.

It doesn't seem logical why inverting your forearms could affect your breathing, but it does. My shoulders...

Re: Cool breathing trick

Not a physical person...could you elaborate on that?

I have no idea why it is, the air thing. I learned it from Sadhguru, a South Indian mystic/guru.

I got it from Youtube, I didn't go to...

Re: Unusual venue

Cool joint. I hope the idea catches on, spreads to The US and revives the music scene.

Hopefully the high ceilings won't wreak total havoc on the sound.

Have they had any live music yet or...

Well I can't unsee that, thanks Art. Guru hoops on a Pearl drum...how could you man?

Re: Decided to try this new look!

I have one on my DW set, the bronze Starfire, and IMO it looks stunning. They have to go with the drum finish though. I got the bronze Starfire head for my steambent ash drums, which are a totally...

Re: UK Drum Show - who's coming?

Oh man I didn't know Stanton was on the roster.

I'd swim over but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make it.

Re: Decided to try this new look!

My thoughts are..

That kit is just screaming for a Remo Starfire head with the bronze not chrome hue. On certain drums it looks stunning. Yours may be one of those drums.

The legs? I'm ghetto...

Re: UK Drum Show - who's coming?

Sadly, I won't be able to make it this year.

I'm betting you sell all your drums.

I know I'm an optimist, and I don't know why, but I get the feeling that you're mostly recovered.

Re: Musician vs Artist

Sums it up nicely for me.

For my money, Dylan, Bowie, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Miles Davis etc. cross the line from musician to artist IMO.

I'm real glad no cymbals went missing and that you are getting reimbursed.
The whole thing still sucks though...
