Re: Drum gear gimmicks that didn't really catch on

Re: The Forgotten Beatle (replaced Ringo)

Not really a Beatle though.

That's like saying Eric Clapton was a Beattle for guesting on "While My Guitar..."

Lots of bands have had fill n players on a temporary basis.

The article's...

Re: So....how long should it take to learn....

I wonder if Rick Allen plays it the same way every night.

I've owned that album on various formats since going back to the original vinyl release, and yet I don't think I've ever bothered to...

Re: Did recording yourself make you a better player, and how?

Yes.

Though back when I was a 20thing, recording yourself was difficult.

But when I was at PIT, there were cameras on the main stage, and playing on the main stage and getting to go back and...

Re: Drum and gear pricing

Having worked in 4 different music stores, I can 100% verify the above is true.

Some stuff is what we call 50-20, which is wholesale is 50% off retail, then 20% off that, so a $100 item works out...

Re: Drum and gear pricing

To add the answers:

Most stores are selling music gear at huge discounts, really only a small percentage over the wholesale costs the stores pay to the manufacturers.

So when prices are...

Re: The gig that you turned down, and it's a good thing you did!

Well, Jim didn't actually turn down the gig, but I think he wins anyway. lol

Wow, impersonating another band!

Re: Autographs

I used to have a ton of autographs when I was younger.

But then a drum teacher told me don't be a fan, but a contemporary if you want to make it.

So I stopped asking for autographs. I tried...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Tama bought the name, rights and the pedal design.

DW bought their actual physical machinery.

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

Indeed that is what happened.

Gibson bought Slingerland. They attempted to re-boot the brand in the mid-90's.
They even signed Greg Bissonette to be an endorser.

The problem with the Gibson...

Re: Heel Spurs/Plantar Fasciitis?

I thought I was having Plantar Fasciitis a while back.

I went to a Chinese foot massage place, and it sent away.

Re: The gig that you turned down and regretted it

One band, I had been friends with them for years, and I loved their music.

One day their drummer died tragically. They carried on a for-hire guy,

They approached me several times, saying when...

My story isn't exciting at Tony's but...

Somehow I met this guy who needed a drummer. He was both the son and nephew of well-known musician/celebrities. The 3 song demo he gave me was fantastic...

Re: Advice on kickstarting a drumming career

Not far off.

As others have mentioned, it's tough.

I know of "name" musicians who still live at home, who live in tiny little rent-controlled apartments they've had for 20 years, have...

Re: Advice on kickstarting a drumming career

Take every gig you can get and treat every gig like it's the most important gig in your life.

The big mistake I made was trying to overanalyze each potential gig in how much would it help me, how...

Re: Recording with E drums

I've done it many, many times.

The biggest issue is most modern DAW can record audio much faster than midi.
So sometimes you're playing will be spot on, but the drums will sound behind the...

Re: To rack or not to rack?

I love racks for comfort and ease of getting everything just right when the kit doesn't move.

For gigging, I always found racks were more of a pain.

If the riser/stage isn't level, or sags,...

Re: Dying Live Scenes, tale of two gigs

As I said in another thread, if not for the members of SOA, I doubt anyone would go see them. As a band, the music isn't bad, but it doesn't stand out as particularly special.

I suspect there is...
