Other drummer's bad/nasty/uncomfortable drum sets!

I just feel i need to rant a little bit here. What is it about playing other people's kits that is just so annoying? I have been playing for just under two years, but i have my share of playing other...

Applying Free-Playing to music

Took me a while to come up with a lousy title, but anyways I just want to ask about practicing the drums with no goal in mind and simply letting whatever beat you have in you come out, or what I like...

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer

Wow i was surprised to see all these people hating on the video so much haha!

Now that i think about it, the whole thing was overly dramatic and cheesy at times (especially with the voice) and the...

I'm struggling with the Samba!

Hey drummers. OK so i am in my school's Jazz Band and my song to play is "Brazil", almost exactly like the one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCT_CMfh_NM&feature=related . As usual, my teacher...

Re: What are your Drumming Prejudices?

Drummers for pop artists and the like. For some reason, i get mad that these guys get to play for such a major artist and they play the standard rock beat and thats it. I just cant accept the fact...

Bongos or Cajon... or Bongo Cajon?

So i have been putting together my Christmas list and I have been thinking about asking for some sort of hand percussion instrument to learn. I have always been curious about the Cajon, which is...

Re: Portnoy's feelings on the break

Dude don't listen to these guys, and don't let them change your opinion of these two great drummers. No one is perfect and just because people point out your idols flaws doesn't mean that they can't...

Re: Stop ear damage!!

So what should a beginning drummer, such as myself, do to protect his ears? I don't have the budget to crank out over 100 bucks for an IEM, nor do i even have a use for one.

I am interested in...

Re: What is the new wipeout?

I can play the drum part to 50 Ways! I don't think of myself as a great player, but i like to see that its a respectable milestone.

It seemed pretty easy to me. I don't know the whole song, only...

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer position: Who should it be?

I really like some of these possibilities! Im sad that Mike had to go, but the idea of a new drummer is pretty cool. I wanna see what new sound comes out of this in the next album. :D

Re: Weirdest thing you've used as a throne?

I did the same thing as you. except instead of me taking the back off, the back had already fallen off. It was that crappy haha!

Getting a comfortable throne is a great investment :D

Re: What's your favorite sounding rock snare recording?

I agree. That part on Outshined was pretty beastly i have to admit. The sound of Matt Cameron's drums on the Badmotorfinger album where weird, but they fit the mood of the album IMO.

I'm glad to...

Re: A Cool Double Stroke Hand-Evening Exercise

I never had alot of success trying that. How should i practice it effectively because i dont think i got much improvement. The accent of the second hit seemed really awkward.

Re: taye snare drum

If i am correct, then the RockPro snare drum is a budget snare (beginner, entry level? I dunno the word for it). Im not a price expert, but you could probably sell it for $100 plus, depending on the...

New Cymbal Ideas?

Recently, i began thinking "what new cymbals could be made"? There are already so many variations in cymbal groups that it seems to me that you cant do anymore to a circle (or other) of bronze.

Re: Fill transcription

Yeah i get pretty astonished with some people's ability to transcribe stuff that i can barely comprehend when i can both see it and hear it. It blows my mind, and i want to be able to do that someday.

Re: Fill transcription

Wow Fox thats great transcription. I had a question, are the stickings notated for left hand drummers? Should i switch the sticking for a right handed drummer like most of us?

Re: Chad Smith's Hi-Hat Thing

Yeah i think Chad had those minute changes in hi hat pressure to get that feeling. Probably just takes a lot of practice.
