Re: Blink 182 - After Midnight Transcription

Thanks for this! Sheet music is always great to have. I wish drum sheet music was as easy to get as guitar tabs.

Re: Do you all tune your snare reso heads tighter than the batter?

I tune my reso tighter, but mostly just to get a good snare wire sound.
I don't really "tune" my snare or bass drum though. They aren't quite as tonal as toms so I just kinda wing it until it...

Re: What do YOU as a drummer like to see in a studio your recording in?

I remember going into a studio thinking I wasn't gonna like the kit, but it ended up sounding really good. I think more than anything I like to hear good samples proving that they can do a...

Re: Cobus. Overrated?

You could argue that any drummer is overrated. Or the instrument itself. Who really needs drums when they've got drum machines? Or pots and pans.

I agree with Arky, that it's just an opinion. It...

Re: constant hats ?

I started keeping time with my left foot when I got good enough at everything else to where I was comfortable doing it. I never really practiced it, it just happened. I like to use it as another...

Re: New Drum Kit Advice

You could easily get a beginner kit under that price especially if it's used. I saw a set of Yamaha's recording Customs on craigslist the other day for $230 and in my opinion that would be a good...

Re: Hearing protection?

That's what I use, but I think they're a bit too quiet. I can hear the bass guitar really well though so I kinda like that, but it's not a natural sound from the drums or guitars.
I've definitely...

Re: recording question , (tricky one...)

If you're gonna record often then I would buy an interface. One of the best purchases yet... It's a nice thing to have around. We've recorded electric and acoustic drums, whole songs, and simple...

Re: tips on improvising

+1 Really great routine
This is basically what I do. I just play a different fill each time and sometimes they're terrible and sometimes they're worth keeping and if I play something close to cool...

Re: An Evening With Nicko McBrain

Wow that's awesome. It's always cool to see people like that in person and realize that they're also made of flesh.
I'd like to hear some tips as well. Maybe on how to build up a right foot like his.

Re: Overusing Fills

Right. I have a few of these that really only work in that song in a specific spot and i do it every single time I play the song, but most of mine are spontaneous and progressively get better (unless...

Re: Overusing Fills

I am a professional at this... I guess this is why I started the thread because I over think it and then ruin the rest of the song trying to "mix things up"
It's good to know I'm not the only one....

Overusing Fills

Every now and then I'll come up with a decent generic fill and it becomes a bad habit. I'll start to use it as a default fill in every (original) song I play.

I was wondering if that's a common...

Re: Should all drummers learn piano?

Yes it definitely made me a better musician. And piano is definitely a good foundation for music theory because every octave is the same and it makes it easy to learn about whole steps and half steps...

Re: Should all drummers learn piano?

I took piano lessons for 12 years of my life and the only way it's helped is reading music and explaining to other band members what I have in my head. Such as " instead of playing this here play...

Re: Playing your drums in the basement: Is that bad for them?

My band used to practice in an area without air conditioning and all we had were fans. It never did anything to the shells, but my hardware has spots of rust on it... Especially the rims. Even the...

Re: Future of music

This is a good description. Also it seems people are beginning to like electronic music with no instruments and nothing more than a mac and a set of digital turntables

Re: Tension

When I took snare lessons my teacher told me to breathe normally because I was breathing in time with the exercises which meant i wasn't comfortable playing them.

Re: Professional Drummers Alert - The bar has been set

He seems to be a lot stronger on the snare... It's like he plays a snare solo, then awkward pause, then awkward beat, then some really fast snare.
I just don't know what to think anymore...
