Re: A dumb customer?

No dumb is me doing dishes and accidentally rinsing my phone off under the faucet.

I am not a smart man.

Re: A dumb customer?

I hadn't heard about Justin haha. I was completely floored by Eric though. Just the nicest guy and took time to talk about Ludwig drums with me (he said that the Vistalites are the most versatile...

Re: A dumb customer?

Fortunately 99.9% of customers are really good. I expected to be dealing with stuff like that a lot in the drum retail business, but it seems like most people out there buy and return with the best...

Re: Playing others' kits

I was always really against using other people's gear (or them using mine). It took a lot of paychecks to get everything put together, and I was definitely a prima donna about it for years.

About...

Re: Stage Banter

I love it if it's pulled off right. For me it's a gamble, but for some guys are a riot to listen to.

I always loved Hendrix's banter at Monterey Pop, calling Noel Redding "Queen Bee" and Mitch...

Re: Stage Etiquette

Question:

When your set is finished, is it kosher to take the drum mic's off yourself? I've always done this (we practice our load in/off like a pit-stop) but always wondered what the sound guy...

The Bass Pedal: Taking our jobs away

If there was an internet forum dating back to the early 1900's, would percussionists be venting over their displeasure of the bass drum pedal? The way I see it, that single invention allowed just one...

Re: Rock and roll....over?

Also, Hip-hop and rap isn't going anywhere. To discredit it is to completely discredit an entire culture of artists. Like the article said, the genre has 40 years of prominent musicians and producers...

Re: Rock and roll....over?

Rock n' roll isn't over. Indie rock and psych rock are huge right now, and both are just rock n' roll with a different genre label... Still the same instrumentation, still the same rock n' roll...

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

Sounds to me like you're as unversed with metal and rock as many others are with jazz.

Re: Trying to track down Gretsch New Classics

He's going to get the vintage glass in 10,12,14,20. I think it comes with a snare. I talked to him yesterday at practice and he is ordering it this week. I too am really curious. From what I've read,...

Re: Using a snare as a floortom

I stand corrected.

I'd like to track down a 14x8 or something to tune down and get the snom thing going permanently.

:P

That's even better. Guess I'm going to impulse buy a 14x11 Parade...

Re: Using a snare as a floortom

This is a great idea! I followed the advice and ran a 14x5 off to my right. It was awesome because it displaced my snare hits and made everything sound much more impressive than what I was actually...

Re: Tuning with those big round bearing edges

I typically tune my reso's on my old 68' Super Classics ~ a major 3rd above the batter. Does that seem about right?

Re: Difficult band members

I won't be in a band with someone I don't like. I commit to guys because we're like minded and jam well together.

Otherwise it's just an ensemble I guess.

Re: But What To Wear?

Unless you're playing jazz in ritzy venues or it's required by the gig, lose the suit/tux.

Re: But What To Wear?

You can seriously never go wrong with some slim-ish fitting dark jeans, a good fitting v-neck, some slick shoes, and some nice sunglasses (ray bans or something). Works inside or outside.

If it's...

Re: Trying to track down Gretsch New Classics

He found some!

Apparently he was at his wit's end and typed "how do I find Gretsch New Classics" into google and found what he was looking for.

I'm curious to hear it. I love the idea of...

Re: Trying to track down Gretsch New Classics

Sorry I forgot to mention that we checked that one too.

Talked to my manager today though and found out that he has a 16x16 New Classic tom that he picked up a couple years back that he's willing...

Trying to track down Gretsch New Classics

My keyboard player (also a killer drummer) is trying to hunt down a Gretsch New Classic kit. They've been discontinued though.

He wants 10" 12" 14" toms, a 6.5x14 snare, a 20" Bass drum, and...

Little Kits

Looking to snag a little Breakbeat/Safari kit here in the near future. It's my understanding that a few other companies aside from Sonor and Ludwig have some sort of offering of cute lil' compact...

Re: How Does Your Band Set Up on Stage?

I really dig the look of having the drummer up front and off to the side, angled towards the audience (like Mutemath).

A couple of local bands here do it, and I think that it's a killer stage...

Re: Can somebody explain Tame Impala's "Elephant" ending drum fill?

I tried mapping it out. Honestly, for being a drummer, my rhythmic dictation is pretty week. It seems like he starts off the fill on the "2" of the measure and switches between sextuplets and little...
