Rim quality and shell construction has a lot to do with rim click sound. I've found that on my cheaper drums, it doesn't come out as loud as one my more solid ones. Older drums and more value-priced...

Work your basic strokes on a pad, then move on to the rudiments. Practice PLAYING EVERYTHING OFF THE LEFT. Starting everything with the right is why most drummers have weak lefts.

Bravo, this is some of the best advice I've read on a drum forum. You have to have the time internalized - then you can put it wherever you want. Time isn't in the high hats or the ride or the snare...

Since you're a beginner, you should really focus on things other than speed and fills at the moment. You have your entire life to get faster... remember, music is a lifelong process. I know it's hard...
