Re: Band rehearsal in a small space

Have rehearsed in plenty of small rooms- biggest problem is sound cancellation- the waves of sound bouncing off the walls cancel each other out and you get white noise or have to turn up super loud...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

I think you got it!- they are entitled to do whatever they want and I for one don't really care who endorses their product or if they think I am worthy. But their attitude is bad business and they...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

I agree- it is awkward to ask for an endorsement deal (or a buyback) and certainly inappropriate to demand one. Nonetheless, I wouldn't tell a job applicant: "some employers might hire uneducated...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

The customer/client is king. Same applies when selling a car, interviewing job applicants, treating a patient, or at the bar.

Imagine if a newby drinker asked a bartender for a buyback and the...

Re: Crescent cymbals... AKA Screw all you meaningless peons?

Note to Crescent- hire someone with a brain to do public relations.

I get their point - they do not want to give endorsement deals to everyone (as some companies do just to drum up sales to...

Re: Do you take cymbals/bass-pedal to a venue that have a drumkit?

I most often bring cymbals and pedal to gigs as that is standard around here. I also bring the same to the rehearsal/recording studio.

I am curious what other stuff people bring (other than...

Re: Brian Blade is in my top five all time jazz drummers

Nistor often gets called on by Danger Mouse - I suspect he is the favorite studio drummer.

In fact, not only do I refer to him as "the Danger Mouse drummer," sometimes I just refer to him as "...

Re: Brian Blade is in my top five all time jazz drummers

Re: Dirty Little Secrets

Always thought the BeeGees sure had some kick-ass studio musicians. My bro and sis got 11 copies of Saturday Night Fever for their birthdays in 1978! (16 and 17 yrs old at the time).

I...

Re: Jazz appreciation- Other countries more than USA?

Thanks for the stats. But I have to note that Kind of Blue (modal jazz) was a late development in Jazz. Jazz was the most popular music amongst the young for a long time before. Look up the "Jazz...

Re: Jazz appreciation- Other countries more than USA?

I agree that Jazz is much more appreciated in Europe and Asia than in the US. At least in NYC it seems the appreciation of Jazz goes down a notch every year.

I love Jazz, but I also appreciate...

That is a tough one. I would recommend talking to other people/bands represented by them to see what their opinion is. Also, it depends on what the respective agreements say with regards to who...

Re: Tricks for getting interesting sounds out of your drums

1. Rubbing the tip of a drum stick along the snare wires lengthwise gives an excellent record-scratch sound (useful for a Bruno Mars Lazy Song cover I just had to do).

2. Weirdest- sanitary pads...
