Re: Double stroke vs. double bounce?

His left hand technique and overall smooth control is just legendary.
I could watch his all day.

Thanks for that post Mastiff. Made my day.

Re: Snare for a phat sound

To be honest, you don't need a deeper snare for a fatter sound, you just need something like a Big Fat Snare Drum accessory.

I too had the desire for a deeper sound, but before I bought a new...

Re: Ever feel like going back to your roots and using pie tins as cymbals?

The description was priceless!:

"Sabian's new 2" Pie Hats really put the "trash" in trashy! The price tag may be high, but they have a beautiful crisp, dark sound, getting out of the way almost...

Re: Is the snare bed really necessary?

I have a 14x5.5 Gretsch Catalina Club snare with no bed cut. At first I thought it weird and had plans to cut a pair, but have come to realize that it sounds pretty good as is.
I assume Gretsch R&D...

Re: Do you ever use your brushes?

I use them monthly during my acoustic rockabilly gigs at a local watering hole. They give me just enough punch during accents, yet quiet enough for the groove keeping.
I prefer the nylon...

Re: So Frustrating trying to pick a new kit

Tough choice for sure, but you'll do well with any of these. Good luck OP.

Re: Minimalist - Not interested in new gear?

I purged my G.A.S. when I bought a lot of shells and parts from an estate sale. My studio was PA-ACKED with more equipment than I'd ever know what to do with.
Eventually, I whittled it all down to...

Re: Do You Drum While Not Drumming?

You're not the only one for sure. I got a finger rudiment exercise that helps me with dexterity. That transfers to how my fingers control the sticks. Very useful AND I can do it all while just...

Re: Fatigue and recovery

If you can't rest like you'd like, slow it down a lot. I've learned when I'm struggling with exercises, I play them really s-l-o-w-l-y. That helps me focus more on form and I find my speed is better...

Re: St Anger snare, or lid of a trash can?

You're not the only one. I liked his kick sound on Justice too. They both just fit the music well.

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

I like my drums to be as low and flat as I can get them. Just has a better look and feel as I sit pretty low as well.

Re: New thread or resurrect the dead?

I'm surprised this hasn't happened. When you can access 40+ pages of old threads, I feel it's time for the Admins to wipe all but the last 10 out in every topic offered. The space saving alone would...

Re: PLAY ALONG at Drummerworld...

I'm all over this! I love these drumless tracks to just stir my creative juices. Gets me thinking outside the box.
Thanks B.

Re: Fixing a Pearl Sensitone

If just the shell is dented and not the hoop, any drum shop will do. Most have a drumsmith on site who can pop that out and get you back on the gig trail.
If the drum is seriously out of round,...

Re: Dealing with a controlling bandmate.

All good points here. Musicians come and go in bands, and like in the corporate world, more employees leave because of bad management than a bad job.
Seems this is the case here.

Re: Wouldn't it Be Great To Be In the Middle Of All of These Drums

Wow! That would be great!
Have them spaced out so a swivel chair would allow you to "run the circle". =-D

Re: Jon Bermuda

Great pic there!
I love those Sessions Panels. Saw Anika Nilles on one and Dom was a true professional.

Re: Drum Solo/Fill Letdowns

When I was 9, I heard God of Thunder from KISS's Alive II. There's a drum solo in the middle of the song and that was my initial inspiration to get into drumming (Thanks, Pete).

Now when I...

Re: Maybe time to drum share?

At 47, the only thing I don't like is the occasional late nights simply because I have to be up at 5:00am for my job.
The current rockabilly scene I'm in makes drum gear very low key, so I'm on &...

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

Did 3 for ten years before I finally got into a band that stayed together for more than a few months.

Re: How many different Brands do you Use?

Brand loyalty can play a role in a drummer's life, but then reality and the wallet step in and alter that thought process.

I saved for my "Holy Grail" kit (Gretsch) and knew that was the kit I...

Re: Sometimes the most talented drummers can be the worse teachers ever

Just watching is sometimes how you learn best. The instructor may not have to really explain anything beyond showing you. Like Ray Parker Jr. once said, "I could take 15 minutes trying to explain it,...

I flirted with this for a while as I got the use of an x-hat stand for a while from a bud. I liked the open handed playing and was able to arrange my rack toms in a very comfortable way.
I might...

Re: G. A. S. I've got it bad

Oh yeah we do!
I started out with a simple Hohner Marine Band model when I was 10 and loved it. Then the teen years kicked in and I learned of all the other keys they're offered in (at the same...

Re: How often should I replace drum heads?

This if you're hitting the studio a lot. Not so much if you're just a casual player or gig where they use mics.
I've played at shows where the front of house guy put a dead headed drum through his...
