Re: Shoes and Gloves

Ha! Finally an endorsement for gloves! My hands sweat a lot, even when I'm not drumming.

Forgive the long response OP, but you asked for it! :p

Regarding gloves. I only used gloves when I...

Re: Torn calf muscle

Sounds like you should put a kick drum on your left foot! Or at least set up a bass drum pedal to develop some independence.

Sorry to read about the misfortune. I guess the silver lining is...

Re: Sonor Prolite Snare...

Whoa there! Hahaha. Not $180 for a prolite snare, $180 for the die cast hoops. I was debating on getting the prolite with the flanged hoops which sells for about $150 less than the model that...

Re: Sonor Prolite Snare...

Just got a quote for $180. Not sure it's worth it or not to get the flanged hoops and then later going for the diecast or just get them to begin with. Options are always good, I guess.

Re: drum tuners

I've owned the Tama version of the DrumDial and now have a TuneBot. I've had the most luck with the TuneBot. A lot of people complain about it but from much of what I've seen they're not using it...

Re: Two floor toms....

I feel like it's centered well too. I have found I tend to angle my kick more as my feet don't rest parallel naturally and I have a rather open stance. Part of me still wants to sell the 14" floor...

Re: Rediculously Massive Drum Kits

All I can see in that picture is the last metronome I bought, the Boss DB-90. So expensive, sucked batteries like no other, and surpassed by a three or four dollar app...sigh.

Re: Rediculously Massive Drum Kits

Holy shit, that's real! I thought it was photoshopped funniness. Wow....just...wow.

Re: Good ear plugs(or other sound attenuation methods) for liver performance...?

Anything is better than nothing at that point!

I have permanent ringing and now take many precautions every time I pick up sticks (unless using a rubber practice pad). I've known lots of people...

Re: Two floor toms....

I just moved it last night and the thought crossed my mind if putting the 14 to the left might not be better. I'll give this set up a week and then try it to see how it feels. I pretty much...

Two floor toms....

I tried, I really did. I've played three up one down for the longest time. I had one 16" floor tom and when I got an 18" it was simply too big to put on the right with the 16". But, that was years...

Re: Sonor Prolite Snare...

No price was quoted but the price difference between the two drums was ~$150, so that'd be my guess if not more.

I'm a bit surprised to see the S-hoops are more rigid than the die-cast. I can't...

Any thoughts on diecast versus triple flanged, Mr. KIS?

Re: Sonor Prolite Snare...

I've found I prefer the 5-5.5" range on snares. I'm a bit disappointed to read your vote for the diecast hoops as I feared they'd be that good. I guess I'll just have to keep putting money in the...

Sonor Prolite Snare...

I bought myself a Prolite kit earlier this year and have thought about getting a matching snare as I didn't buy one at the time. The flanged hooped version is considerably cheaper than the die-cast...

Re: Autumn beauty!

Stunningly beautiful! I must say though, I get nervous every time I see the bass drum resting over gravel like that. Would be such a pity should a rock get kicked up or that gorgeous finish get...

Re: Containment unit drum kit

Ha! Doesn't sound half bad. A lot more innovative than I am, but maybe if I couldn't afford a kit I'd have done something similar. The googly eyes to act as snare wires I found rather impressive. ...

Re: Can I keep my toms low on a 22" kick?

Maybe, but it's hard to squeeze in as many as Vinnie when he lets loose!

I guess that shows what years in fusion bands will do to a drummer :P

Re: Anyone prefer standard depth?

I've found I'm attracted to 5-5.5" mostly. Played mostly 6.5s my whole drumming life, except for that period in the mid to late 90s where it seemed everyone had a piccolo or three. Then I got a 5.5...

Re: Can I keep my toms low on a 22" kick?

Here's a video of Akira's setup that shows it nicely. He was the first one I noticed how highly he played his snare and the more I paid attention to others, I started seeing who did and who didn't....

Re: Can I keep my toms low on a 22" kick?

I've always struggled to get my toms as low as possible. I've found not slouching and raising up the snare helps a lot. If you look at players like Akira Jimbo, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith and to a...

Re: Keller Maple Shells

Makes sense. I've only played multi-ply kits and I must say this prolite kit is by far the nicest sounding kit I've had the pleasure to play. I do have to think a lot of it has to do with...

Re: Keller Maple Shells

Thanks for this. I've been curious about my 9-ply Prolites. They're very thin at 4mm but I've wondered with so many plies if you're basically starting to hear the glue at that point, as I'd imagine...

Re: NDD - Acrolite

Play it! :)

If it really hasn't been played much it's got a 30+ year deficit you need to catch up on.

Looks nice. What are your initial thoughts compared to your BB?

Thanks for sharing.
