Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

DW might have the Edge (pun intended) in finishes. Their exotic finishes are often breathtaking (love mine) and they use real veneers. Both brands do better than most in the resale market. Most other...

Re: Top 5 Metal Snares

I hear the Keplingers are amazing. Are the Ayotte versions different than the ones he makes individually for clients?

Re: Good quality mid-range snares?

Sensitones sound great and probably have the best build quality at their price point IMO. Unless you're dead set on metal, you may want to consider a good maple snare. A used Pearl MCX is a good...

Re: Top 5 Metal Snares

Like Vintage, I'm a huge fan of the Joyful Noise TKO. Best metal snare I've played, owned, or for that matter heard (eliminating processed stuff from a soundboard). I'm also going to add my DW Vault...

Re: Very excited!

Enjoy! Like you, I so admire Simon's brilliance in whatever setting he finds himself in. Has an uncanny ability to make the right drumming decisions for the music.

Re: StarClassic 100% birch

Oh, and with the same hoops, heads, hardware, and tuning, you'll find only subtle differences sonically. They're (well made) ply shells after all. I second the suggestion of side by side comparisons...

Re: StarClassic 100% birch

Something is rotten in Denmark here. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. All things being relatively equal, there isn't $1000 difference between those kits. Tama hasn't made a Starclassic all...

Re: New - official Guru In-Tense video starring David Floegel!

Funny, when I heard the preliminary test video you made Andy, I fell for the floor tom. The same drum in the final version of the video sounded as if it was tuned much higher--a bit too high for my...

Re: Versatile DW Snare

The Edge is brass/wood. The Super Solid Edge takes the same concept (three sections combined together to form a shell) but uses all wood, two different wood types and they're compressed like the...

Re: Versatile DW Snare

The Super Solid Edge I owned was comprised of maple rings on top and bottom with a walnut ring in between. Went with the middle thickness option available. Had DW special order for me as I assumed...

Re: Versatile DW Snare

I spent a small fortune on a Super Solid Edge. Absolutely a useless drum, though it looked great. Lacked any kind of body or warmth. Very dry. Toneless. I was glad to find a buyer.

Re: Versatile DW Snare

I've always felt the Edge to be a bit brash. Not all that versatile for softer, lighter genres to my ears. My Top Edge, however, seems to give me the best of any world I choose to visit. The wood on...

Re: Sorry - here's another look at my current tools

Love the configuration Bo, not that I'd ever be brave enough to follow suit and try it. While I generally prefer clear G2s on my tom batters, I went with G12 clears on my Ref Pures. I wanted to stay...

Re: snare not giving a good rebound?

...and try avoiding heads with plastic dots in the center ( top or bottom/reverse). When played in the center, those heads may inhibit bounce just a bit.

Re: Joey Kramer joins Pearl Drum Company

Service and money are surely the key determining factors. The drummers' preference in sound, aesthetics, perception of quality, and playability are all lesser factors, regardless of their statements...

Re: Prototype tom depths

I'm hoping the drums sound awful on the video. If they sound as good as I expect, I'm going to be crunching numbers and trying to find out how I. can join Larry in line for an In-tense kit.

Re: You get what you pay for

I agree with Larry. We live in amazing times. The gap between intermediate-level drums and high end drums these days has never been narrower in terms of build quality and sound. The differences in...

Re: Pro Ludwig, Anti Guitar Center

Never thought I'd defend Guitar Center but by the OP's description, Ludwig shares some of the blame, based on my own personal experience. A few years ago, I bought a Keystone kit around the time they...

Re: Competition - early heads up for forum members :)

FedEx provides a breakout on a US Treasury form. $113.45 of the fee is a federal customs fee, which means the fee would be the same regardless of which state it is delivered. The Customs Service...

Re: YES summer tour

My all time favorite band. As a matter of principle though I've boycotted the last several tours since they ditched Jon Anderson.

Just an awesome concept Andy and wow, what a prize. Wish I had a bit of creativity left.

Re: Is it unethical to buy drums made in China?

From one Pocket to another, you've wonderfully hit the nail right on the head with this post.
