Re: Left Foot Clave

I'd go for the Negro Hernandez' Conversations in Clave DVD.

That one will get you going.

Re: Metal?

I will try basic exercises like RLRL and LRLR (16th notes) for long periods of time all the way from 80bpm up to whatever you can manage as long as you can stay relaxed.

Also, this looks basic but...

Re: Open-Handed Players: When did you start?

I've started playing open handed a year ago. Now I feel pretty comfortable with it although I can't play funky-tricky-grooves while left leading.

One other thing that I can't do very well is to...

Re: Mike Portnoy

I'm just gonna add my personal opinion on this, just as you did.

When I see Mike Portnoy live (or in dvds), I get the feeling he's playing with passion. Then, honestly, I don't care about his...

Re: Practicing Bass with no pedals, does it really works?

Hey!

I've finally found a way to buy those practice pads for the feet.

As soon as I get them I'll see. They look exactly as what I need so, thank you man!

Re: Chris Adler

I've been listening to Lamb of God for quite a reasonable time now and I think this guy is great. He fits so well with the band's music and he has an amazing double bass technique when it comes to...

Re: What First Inspired You

Phill Collins, I watched over and over a concert when I was like 6 years old and it was what really got me into hitting everything on my way!

Then after years Mike Portnoy made me push my limits,...

Re: Hi-Hat grooves?

Well, I don't have transcriptions but, The Police is a great band to check if you want to improve that area of your drumming.

Stewart Copeland is known for his hi-hat playing.

Some Opeth and...

Re: Learning a song?

What I do: listen to it and play along as soon as I get the song structure. Then with time the main fills will be in my memory and eventually the details too.

Now, the best and most accurate way,...

Re: Practicing Bass with no pedals, does it really works?

Ok, I do understand and yes, it really works for me also to practice air drumming.

But, practicing like that, does it really develop your muscles?

Practicing Bass with no pedals, does it really work?

Hello!

I've been doing some research about practicing with no pedals, you know, just hitting the floor.

Now, for what I found, if you are hitting the floor plain and simple, you're not working...

Re: Learning to tune the drums - teacher?

I know there's a drum tuning bible out there on the net, I believe I found it on drumbum.com.

Anyway, if you can, of course it's great to have lessons on that, but after knowing how it works, I...

Re: who does your favorite drum solo?

I think that my favorite has to be Mike Portnoy's As I Am (studio version though, I don't like his live solos that much).

But also, there's a Mike Mangini solo that blew my mind, I just remember...

Re: Single Pedalers:

I played the drums with a single pedal for 5 years. Then I bought the double, and I really felt good about it.

From my personal experience, I think it's better to learn to play drums with a single...

Re: beginner tips for double bass

Hey, you might wanna try songs like Laid To Rest (to begin with) or get into something really spicy like Death From A Lovers Hand by The Sorrow.

Of course, complete independence can be found in...

Re: beginner tips for double bass

My advise: metronome, 16th notes, start slow (at least 80bpm) and work your way up increasing the bpms by 5.

Trust me, it might feel strange to play slow at the beginning, and you'll feel more...

Re: Who's your drumming influence?

When I was 7, I watched a Phil Collins concert over and over... but after that, just started listening to music itself and went through many bands (Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Megadeth,...

Re: Drummers on a different level than other musicians

I think times have changed... we, as drummers, were considered as just "the timekeepers", but, nowadays that has changed, we contribute more to the feel of the music than ever before.

I understand...

As far as I know, Martin Lopez is alive (... and well). I'm a drummer from Uruguay, just like him (but not that good :P) and he was here recently so... he should be fine.

Now, as a drummer, to me...

Re: Can jogging improve your speed or slow you down?

I used to work walking 8 hours per day, and believe me, the pedals felt a little bit lighter than usual after 2 months (and I wasn't practicing at all).

So, my personal approach over this idea is...

Re: Drumset vibration?

That thing looks great!
Thanks, I'll see what I can do with that.

But, does someone tried the drum mutes? Do they work well with vibration or they are just to reduce noise?

Drumset vibration?

Hello all!

To make a long story short: I can't practice double bass at home! I live in an apartment and, obviously, I can't play my drums because of the noise.

Then, I bought a practice kit...

Re: The World’s Greatest Drummer - And Other Hang-Ups

Great article!

As soon as I read the topic title, some Mike Portnoy words came to me: "There are no bests, just favorites" (or somethin' like that). I really like that sentence.

As for this...

Re: Every drummer should be on here with a story

- The floor tom fell and I had to keep playin' with my left hand to use the other one to throw the damn drum on the floor!

- The slave pedal's shaft was stuck with my crash's stand. I had to wait...
