Re: Best maple kit on the market.

Sonor makes the best maple kit followed by Gretsch. I am suspicious if you did not like a German Sonor maple kit you might not like maple at all.

Re: Pro end drum kits: Are they really worth the money?

I agree with on all your points. I oversold it by saying head and shoulders above everything else. You have a very sensible approach to drum design and don't overhype things. Its a breath of fresh...

Re: Pro end drum kits: Are they really worth the money?

Makes sense since you have a vested interest in solid/stave shells. I have been in Steve maxwells and played the craviottos and found them a bit dry for my liking. I picked the gretsch next to them...

Re: Pro end drum kits: Are they really worth the money?

Sonor sq2's and gretsch USA customs are head and shoulders above everything else sound wise but cost $$$. If you are satisfied with the sound and looks of the gretsch new classic turn buy it.

Re: Sonor sq2

I fixed the links to the sound files.

The sq2 's and newports were recorded with my Sony pcm-d1 2 channel field recorder in the overhead position. The delite kit with the vintage maple shells...

Re: Sonor sq2

Here are the sound samples of the various kits that you are looking at that I have recorded. All kits are 10,12,14,16. The Delite and SQ2 kit has a 20 inch bass drum and the Newport kit has a 22 inch...

Re: DW or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love them

I am the op of this thread. I still like DW's but with everything there are good sets and not do great sets. I believe that DW has improved their consistency and the vlt shells are a nice play off of...

Re: Buy Sonor Prolite now...or wait until after NAMM 2013?

I want the American walnut finish to be exclusive to the sq2, since I have a kit on order. I guess it's for selfish reasons to keep it exclusive.

Re: Buy Sonor Prolite now...or wait until after NAMM 2013?

Just a quick question to where you heard this info and how do you know that American walnut is a new color?

Re: Sonor Delite Shell Set for Sale

Agreed,

He may get half the asking price because that bearing edge needs to be treated and recut. Modified drums drop the price of the kit drastically plus the resale on delites have been bad. ...

Re: Sonor's build quality- not what it used to be.

You answered my question there about the dealer. Next step is to put the whole thing in writing to them so you can start the paper trail. I would tell the dealer that you want to go through the...

Re: Sonor's build quality- not what it used to be.

My favorite company is Gretsch. Let me clear that up and I apollogize if I offended people with offending what kits that they own . But I won't apologize for the kits that I own or feel bad about it.

Re: Sonor's build quality- not what it used to be.

What are you talking about? Are you saying that a drumset made from Chinese poplar would kill a top of a line German Sonor kit made out of North American Maple? Have you heard or played a German...

Re: Sonor's build quality- not what it used to be.

So by your opinion the OP got ripped off for buying this kit in the first place?

Re: Sonor's build quality- not what it used to be.

What damage does the kit have? The 8 inch tom has a bulge in the bearing edge. Yes, they need to fix that. The rest I don't see the issues, other then cosmetic Imperfections that don't effect the...

Re: Sonor's build quality- not what it used to be.

The only issue I see in the pics is the wavy bearing edge. That may or may not effect the soUnd of the drum. The rest of the issues look ok to me and look very common to Sonor drums and drumd in...

Re: Depths: Science or Clever Marketing?

But for years sonor had been doing power tons. The delite series is very thin shelled drums and they have a studio pack which I own in a 9x10, 10x12 14x14 and17.5x20 bass drum. They sold this config...

Re: DW or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love them

I find that as I crank my DW collectors, the attack gets quicker and the decay is lessened. There is a point when this spills over into a chocked sound at bop tuning. But with careful tuning, they...

Re: DW or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love them

Rick,

My Dw's sound great and resonate tuned medium-high. My original statement was that the collectors are not just one trick ponies. I think they have a bigger tuning range then some people...

Re: DW or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love them

I have played a number of DW kits that sounded off or one drum was a lemon.
