Re: Good ear plugs(or other sound attenuation methods) for liver performance...?

FYI, those are Hearos "High Fidelity Series". Just a word of caution to anybody who might be ordering them online without seeing them, Hearos does in fact make a more basic foam plug.

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

As others have said, I think it is because drumming has been predominantly male-dominated, and it will simply, unfortunately take time for the community to get with the times. I'm only posting to...

Re: I suck at power ballads.

Today, people say "ballad" when they mean "slow song", because somehow it seems like a more 'official' jargon word. For centuries, "ballad" meant a song (or even just a poem) that tells a story....

Re: Electronic Drum Kit Survey

Yeah, I'm not "signing in" to fill out a survey.

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

In general, I agree with you. However, I would point out two very important practical matters that make electric guitars and keyboards significantly different:

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

On the flip side, John Lennon said that the screaming girls at their concerts were so loud, they couldn't hear themselves playing. There is some footage of him 'playing' a keyboard with his butt (I...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

I disagree. Cymbal stands make very decorative coat racks. ;p

Re: The Tick Tock Effect

This is amazing. I came to that same conclusion myself a few months ago, and it does seem to be helping.

Re: The Tick Tock Effect

I hear one sound repeated, always have. I have always wondered why people say things like "tick-tock". I never hear "tock". Maybe that's why I'm a crappy drummer and lose my place frequently.

Re: John Bonham Snare on the bay

Hmm. When I click on the link, I get the ebay listing, but there is absolutely nothing in the comments. It's just blank white space. I do see that shipping would be $12.62. That seems fair.

Re: Took a 3 month long break from practicing regularly

I have always suffered from this. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of my failings are mental, not physical. Certainly, there are physical limits when the speeds get up there, but when having...

Re: The Clave Police

In every genre of every art form, there are always traditionalists who get bent out of shape when someone does something different. I do think the clave police are amongst the worst offenders in this...

Re: Talking salespeople down in price

I don't care for it, but I do it because, well, I need the money. I try to maintain some respect (for myself and the other party) by simply making one fair offer and very politely saying something...

You (any of you seeing that ad) probably have some kind of virus/adware/malware infection. I run no virus protection or ad blocking software (I'm just careful...and taking a chance), and I have no...

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

As a yank, I feel compelled to say....you're pretty much right. I like to think I'm a bit more sane and relaxed than most (no guns needed). But the paranoia of my countrymen is astounding....

Re: Posture

I agree. I see that line of thinking in many areas of life, "XYZ did it the hard/wrong/bad/dangerous/sloppy/inefficient way and he was the GREATEST!". My response, which is usually ignored or not...

Re: Drummers Brains Are Actually Different

I've seen a few of those as well. Perhaps it is self-serving journalists and psychiatrists. What better way to get people talking about your work than to make it complimentary about some group of...

Re: Will it affect your ability to work with other musicians if you're tone deaf?

I have heard a few voice teachers say that unless you are clinically tone-deaf (meaning ZERO ability to differentiate between ANY pitches), you can learn to sing, which means you will first...

Apparently I've offended some people by answering a question that was asked. I'm kind of confused by that, as I thought my reasoning was pretty obvious and simple, but I may have been wrong: I don't...

Re: Just curious -----------

I was intrigued by the contest, and might still enter, but a few things have slowed me down:

1. I had concerns similar to Gruntersdad. Although with the rule change, I suppose I'm okay with it...
