I've got that very snare (14x6.5") and the kit that goes with it, and it is a phenominal snare drum (and drum kit). One of the best I have ever played. It can deal with everything from rock to jazz...

I use ear plugs and big ear protectors on top of them aswell. I can still hear the drums and everything/everyone else fine, it is just a lot quieter and a lot more comfortable using both of them at...

I don't usually drop sticks when I'm practicing, but when I play in front of a crowd I put this stuff called Gorilla Snot on my sticks. Works a treat and I've never dropped a stick on stage.
