Re: Starting at the Beginning.....After 6 years

Well while I'm getting organised with a teacher I decided to start on these.

Looks like I've got a long way to go but I like that - got something to work towards.

I started on the lowest level...

Re: Starting at the Beginning.....After 6 years

Very interesting thoughts Mark. I tend to go with what feels best with my body - sitting high and burying the beater just feel right to me so I go with it.

I actually had a single lesson with the...

Thanks all there's some great advice there.

Starting at the Beginning.....After 6 years

I've been playing for about 6 years now and I've never really learnt any proper technique.

I've recently been re inspired with my drumming and I'd like to go back and do what I never did in the...

Snare Drum "Trench" Tuning

Anyone know what this is?

Saw a drummer on Saturday who had the best snare sound I've ever heard. Very sharp crack with absolutely tons of mid and bottom. Very powerful.

He said he used the...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Well I've bought a Yamaha Beech Custom - 10, 12, 14 and 22.

I got it Monday, tried it Tuesday and I love it. It sounds great and the sizes are really good. They also allow me to easily extend the...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Karl that is some brilliant information. Thanks so much for taking the time to write it all down.

I've quoted your post and added comments where I had something to say as there was so much info.

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Cool. Gonna go with the PS3 but if I'm not happy with that then it'll be the EQ3.

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Interesting times.

I went to Wembley Drum Centre a couple of weeks ago and had a good chat with a very helpful guy and more or less decided that I would change to a 22 kick and either Tama...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Well the gig was awesome. We played to a good crowd and we got a great response and sold some CDs. I have to say hats off to the soundman. He is the most proffesional I've ever met. He had his notes...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Thanks guys, this is great.

I'm gigging tomorrow night so I'll tune them up before I leave and see how I go. I'm probably gonna try a power stroke 3 as well, another friend of mine suggested one...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

That's a good point.

From memory he piled 3 Evans pillows up against the batter head and used a foam ring around the port on the resonant head.

I'm having an off day. I've got 10 and 12s not 8 and 10s. Time to go back to bed and start this day again!

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

I went with EMAD cos I watched the Bob Gatzen vids on YouTube and I liked the sound he had. I'll try removing the muffling and see how that goes. Changing heads is the next option.

Do you have any...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Yeah that's right. I got it cos I wanted a bigger range. I tended to use the floor more in conjuction with the snare rather than with the other toms at the time I ordered the kit. My style has...

Re: PDP Platinum second thoughts

Thanks. I'll give it a go. My understanding was the muffling would lower the fundamental frequency but I'm open to all suggestions.

PDP Platinum second thoughts

I eventually got my PDP platinum kit after too long a wait towards the end of last year. I was initially very happy with it because I had moved from a starter kit up to an awesome kit.

I'm having...

Re: Would John Bonham be here?

This is why I said EXACTLY.

So John Bonham is the most amazing drummer because of his right foot. Wow.

I will have a listen to that track on my lunch break and I'll check out the other stuff...
