Re: LOUD brushes. How?

rim shots and whip strokes. Since there's flexibility in the "stick"/brush, the term whip becomes even more applicable.

Re: Philosophical Question

Man, I hate to say it, but I LOVE playing with people above my pay grade. I'm sure I annoy them a bit, but it feels so good when you can fully count on players to do what you expect and have the...

Re: Self-Doubt

This stopped happening to me when I resolved to not play on the edge of my ability at a live show. I found that when I was playing at "100%" the propensity for things I would call "mistakes" was...

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

For these type of attenuating plugs, the decibels "stopped" is a bit misleading because they're designed to cut certain frequency ranges, and decibel refers simply to overall noise level. You have...

Re: Crossroads

Hit the jams, Lar.

You'll have a new gig in no time. Drummers might be a little common, but good ones are less so.

Re: Are there simple things you struggle with even though you've been playing a while?

I'm told that I still struggle to load the dishwasher properly. Apparently one of my big problems is that I don't fully wash the dishes before I put them in. After all these years you'd think I'd...

Re: Overrated Drummers -who's on your list? Steve Gadd?

Okay, now I'm starting to get insecure. I like to eat in the most efficient way possible and I'm tired of the stares and responses like this.

Re: Drum placements on stage

I was in a band for a while that really liked to put me up front and center stage. I wasn't such a fan of the arrangement for a few reasons.

Re: when soloing over a form...

That's weird. I tend to blame database or server error... No way would a mod have deleted your posts here.

Re: when soloing over a form...

Fantastic video Tony. I'm going to bust that out next time I'm playing some free form and they start some trading, I'm wondering how many people will pick out the rhythm as what it is. Probably...

Re: when soloing over a form...

We have a lot of things going on around us that can inspire what notes we play when we solo over a song. Listening to the melodic music you'll be able to pick out patterns you can use to build what...

Re: I have Cubital Tunnel... what worked best for you guys?

I think it's generally important for the stick to be able to move around in your hand and not be "tied" to your body at a certain point. I do however think it's great for cases like this thread...

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

Those are also excellent, but more expensive than the vater/alpine ones, which is why I stick to them. I do tend to lose the buggers and it hurts less if it's 15 per pair rather than 40.

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

That's exactly where I keep my little aluminum vater container too... Clipped to my meinl cymbal bag on the little ring.

It's okay. I'll be the forum canary. If you see me get banned, that means it's time for you to settle down.

Re: Problem uploading .mov files

If it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure my post count would be in the high 80,000s if all the stuff deleted by mods was still here.

OP, just use youtube and post the link.

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

The two "best" ones are alpine or vater brand. I've tried almost all the offerings I've been able to find in the 15-40 dollar per pair range. The vaters and alpines are nearly identical to one...

Two comments:

1) Larry, you're really more than any of us deserve. Thank you for being so generous to so many of our drumming brothers and sisters.
1a) Since your last round of gifting,...

Re: Just Bass and Drums!

Yup. They're like a peppier version of another one of my favorite duos, Royal Blood. You should look them up too. Drummer is a beast.

Basically it's a fancy setup of pedals and often times...

Not that they couldn't perhaps with effort, but I absolutely know adults who cannot clap, or pick out the beat of a song.

That's a good lad.

You stumbled upon the best way to respond to the original question. It's like porn. Too complicated to explain exactly, but it's a thing.

Re: Are Meinl HCS cymbals any good?

Sure is! The price tag! "Real cymbals" not stamped from a sheet of metal won't be the cheapest things around, unless you go used.

I'll probably get yelled at for this, but if you look up a...

Re: Groove discussion

I listen to stuff that grooves all the time without moving; alternately, I've seen people trying to tap their toes or swing their butt to things that do not groove. A swinging butt is one evidence...

Re: Groove discussion

Some things are too complicated to describe accurately. Like trying to explain to someone why Yosemite is so other-world-ly beautiful and humbling. You can attempt to explain some of the aspects...
