Re: Brain Game

This. After a few minutes of trying I could pretty much do a circle & what would pass for a square! I'd guess that with practice it'd be more accurate.

Re: Direct Inguinal Hernia Surgery-drumming life after?

Are you having open surgery or a Laparoscopy? That will make a difference in your recovery too. Generally speaking, you should expect to be fully recovered after about 6-8 weeks.

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Watched it last night & I enjoyed it. I didn't see it as a "drumming movie" as the story has been done many times before, but usually using some form of US College sports team/hard-ass coach as the...

Re: Video Demo: Mapex Versatus Snare

But it's not is it. That's the Saturn snare that comes with the kit!

I thought the snare in the original post was very "meh". Nothing special considering it's supposed to be specially designed to...

Re: What was the first concert you went to????

I was at that too, & I have to agree with you. Even though I've seen hundreds of bands in concert that has to remain the best I've ever seen.
If you look closely you can just see me, just there,...

Re: What was the first concert you went to????

July 5th 1978 I saw Magazine at Bradford St Georges Hall. That began a lifetime of gigs!

Re: How do you measure a snare for a snare bag?

Try looking at the Ahead range of bags. I have a set & the snare bag is a perfect fit. They are in a teardrop shape, which allows for the throw fitting in the bag.

Re: Anxiety before a gig

I used to get a bit anxious when I was in a covers band, which was probably because I knew that people would be comparing our versions to the originals. Now that I'm in a band that plays our own...

Re: Good Snares for Metal?

I picked up my (very lightly used) Chad Smith snare off ebay for 82, and I regularly see them on there go for less than 100.
The OP would do just grand with one of these.

Re: Questions about kick drum heads

TBH, if I was buying a graphic for my drum head I wouldn't want to have to do any trimming at all. You'd be better making it an inch smaller rather than an inch bigger.
As has already been said, you...

Re: When you're in charge, which songs ...

Just one for me.
The Best by Tina Turner. Quite possibly the most awful song ever simply because it causes drunk women to believe they can sing, when in fact all they can do is screech like a...

Re: The side snare

I use a Mapex MPX 10" steel snare for accents. It has the tom fitting that enables me to attach it to my crash stand, saving me having to use another snare stand.

That was my first thought, but then I wondered whether he has added those donations to make it look like people are helping. Still, it's a bloody cheek. Help to buy an xbox & earrings for his...

Mapex BP Phat Bob, 14" X 7" of 12mm Maple.
That should do it.

Re: Bad Auditions

Your original post:

So they want to interview & hear more drummers? That's totally acceptable. I'd be more worried if they had heard only you & gave you the stool on the spot without hearing the...

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

The band should have invited him for an audition, then when he got there told them what they thought of his actions.

I had to get a new car in February as my other one died. I was paying cash & was offered a fabulous deal on a 5 year old Jaguar X-type, but it wouldn't have fitted my kit in. I ended up getting a...

Re: Maple or Birch for hard hitters ?

I think Maple kits are actually more expensive than Birch, e.g Mapex Meridian Maple costs more than the Birch. It seems to be the same with most manufacturers as far as I can see.
