Re: Anatomy of Drumming

John:
Thanks for posting this. I read the Kindle sample and am purchasing the Kindle version now and will read this with much interest and enthusiasm.
I wonder how many drummers we all know have...

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats vs. Sonor Player kit

You made the right choice w/the Player Kit. Very well made and easy to transport. I love the bass drum which really punches through, plenty of low end. Sonor still makes these kits, but Sam Ash no...

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

I bought the drum today for right around $400 :) But as you've pointed out, I do need the slotted drum key. It's being ordered right away.

This drum is in a very clean and solid condition. It...

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

Thanks for that info, VF. I just noticed your post and also saw on eBay that the more exotic finish did fetch $672. I'm hoping to land this right around $400 now.

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

I'm with you on this price. Strangely, another same model sold for $600 on eBay recently, but it might have been almost mint.

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

Jeremy:
Thanks for those specifics which I'm using now to negotiate a price. Of course I hope it is in as good condition when I see it as the seller says it is.

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

Perfect, thanks for that explanation overall that would seem a very reasonable perspective. We're not dealing with an heirloom but a depreciated drum with a standard lacquer finish vs. exotic, as...

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

Thanks, SD- that bit of info is very helpful.
I wonder what the market value for this drum might be, assuming it's in very good condition?
I've only seen a few similar ones for sale, at a much...

Re: Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

Hoop guards. They don't make those any more do they? They seem awkward.

Asking is $550 OBO. Is it worth around $400 now?

Sonor Designer Maple Light Snare- 14 x 6.5

Asking all Sonor experts, can you chime in?
From what I've read, this model is one of Sonor's best and the snare is supposed to sound superb through a wide tuning range. I've always wanted to try a...

Re: 5x15 Supralite

Congrats on your SL.
I bought a 14 x 6.5 a couple of years ago and love it. Its my go-to snare for medium to larger/outside gigs.
As an LM400 on steroids- good comparison.
I installed a coated...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

Ride cymbals set so low and flat it would be impossible to crash them without banging into or pushing over the floor tom.
I don't like rides set up too high either, but for me it has to be set...

Re: Sonor Players Kit from Sam Ash

Amazon says it's selling the Player Kit thru Russo Music, with 4 left.
Sam Ash had an exclusive but that expired either late last year or early this year. I bought mine used in mint condition off...

Re: stick keeps sliding in traditional grip

You might consider trying to use some Zildjian Drumstick Wax. This is cheap and a tin lasts forever.
This isn't a cure nor a crutch to solving the slippery stick issue, as technique and practice...

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

Buddy with match grip-tympani style, circa 1948. Snap and bounce technique at its best-- of course, with no lessons. Like watching Krupa's style at fast- forward speed.

Re: I must be an anachronism

A smidgeon. Exactly what I've noticed so far. I have a 20 x 14 Ludwig Club Date bass drum and a Sonor Player Kit 20 x 12. A bit more low end on the CD and a bit punchier on the PK. I recently...

Re: Stevie Wonder - Superstition

Here's the Isolated Drum track from YouTube.
You can even hear his bass drum pedal squeaking.

Quite a groove- simple but swinging and funky!! Bass drum beat varies from straight 4 to funky feel....

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I also use nylon for longevity and don't sense a noticeable difference in the sounds created for rock/pop that I play. I do notice the heightened stick definition on the ride and hats with nylon. I...

Re: Stoopid drum deal of the day: Sonor Jungle

Does look like a killer deal- I've seen these Sonor Jungle sets and always wished I had one- a highly upgraded Safari so it must sound incredible.

Re: Smaller thinner kicks with good sound- ideas?

I recently bought a slightly used Sonor Players kit for around $350 and the 20 x 12 bass drum had tremendous punch and bass without micing. It cut through sharper than my Ludwig Club Date 14 x 20...

Re: Went to Memphis Drum Shop (again)...

+1
Ben does a great job on the MyCymbals demos. Sometimes I wish he would crash a bit more without adding the bass drum so I could hear the crash by itself several times.
