Re: Real Life Whiplash

Yes, after reading Larry's post I am going to check out the rest of my kit !

Seeing blood on that drum stick really did creep me out. And I know exactly who put it there.
My bet is that he...

Re: Real Life Whiplash

Yes, I'm going to throw them away.
Heck, if I won't ever use them, (even after cleaning them) why should I let someone else use them.

Although Gruntersdad had a good idea.
If I plant the...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Yes, you had better have a 14" drum head handy as you build just to make sure.

Real Life Whiplash

Last night I hosted jam night. The jammers use my drum set. And I provide three drum sticks in case they need them.

This guy decides he wants to play drums. Usually drummers bring in their own...

Re: For those who play at church or not.

I always thought that as a drummer I was supposed to play at a volume that matched the volume of the band.
In other words I would play at a volume that would mix properly with the singer and the...

Re: The legendary sweet spot

Drums can be difficult to tune no matter what sound you are looking for.
As you know almost all other musical instruments have a more exact tuning range.

I think that's what makes this drum...

Re: The legendary sweet spot

This brings up an interesting point.

Maybe the "sweet spot" is more determined by personal preference than by science.

If you took 20 drummers and they tuned the same drum for the sweet spot,...

Re: The Orphan Drum Factory

I'm done !!
This is the last entry on this thread.

Here is what the repaired crack looks like. I decided not to sand it down too much.
I could make it look a little better if I keep sanding...

Re: The legendary sweet spot

Well maybe loud is not the exact word I'm looking for. At the right spot, the drum just seems louder. It is like I get a pure tone with good sustain. So it seems louder. Of course you have to be...

Re: The legendary sweet spot

When I tune up my reso heads on my toms, I have the batter head very loose and the batter head is sitting against the carpet on the ground or on a towel.
As I tune the reso head I get to a place...

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

Yes, you went way way overboard !
Very much over exuberance.

This kind of playing is better left to rock and roll and punk drummers. With their Export drum sets with the reso heads removed.

Re: No rudiments taught in marching band?

Yes, it would be great to teach rudiments in high school. And I don't know the particular situation at this school.

My son and daughter were in the drum line at high school. The marching band...

Re: What will it take for me to be able to do this?

Final report on bass drum repair.

It could not have come out better !

I kept it in the clamps for 4 days. The shell ended up less than 1/8 inch out of round on both ends.

I still have a...

Ok here we go:

Ready to glue and clamp. Got my glue and syringe ready. I experimented using plastic for a barrier between the shell and the inside form.
So the shell and the form would not...
