Re: Most Embarrassing Arguments You've Made...

I once heard a drummer (and a band) play pretty loud while his cymbals were rather small so they seemingly died away very fast. However, it made me believe that he hit his cymbals so hard that the...

Re: Branching out in the right direction

The books Mighty Joker mentioned are great!
However, I'd recommend getting a good teacher over books. A teacher can really give you good advice on your technique which might save you some injuries...

Re: Comping Practice Methods

Have you tried comping on a really slow tempo? (80 BPM or less) If you practice them at that speed, then you'll really get the timing right. Mastering this will also allow you to practice your faster...

Re: How do I know if I'm doing it right?!

Another good thing is to practice with a mirror you'll suddenly get a lot of extra information about your technique.

Also, Jojo Mayer's DVD secret weapons for the modern drummer is a great...

Re: 20 Reasons Why Musicians Get Stuck at the Local or Regional Level

Yeah, well, if either one is lacking then you're on the wrong track right?

Interesting post! I'm still within the starting phases with my band but I think we've got most of the points covered and...

How to check out drums

Hi,
I'm currently doing a lot of research on drum kits so that I can decide what kind of kit I might buy in the future. However, just checking out all kinds of opinions and technical facts on the...

Re: What is the most high profile drum make?

I see that pearl is mentioned a lot, but I somehow don't really get to see a lot of pearl advertisement or endorsees. Actually, the only time when I see a pearl kit is when I'm watching a movie with...

Re: Need a 16" crash for this setup, please suggest

Well, I would go with Istanbul instead of sabian, but that's just me. I can't be your ears and I can only say that a 16" AAX would mix well, but in the end it comes down to what you specifically...

How come I've seen only two guys mention his new EP and there are no reactions???

Re: The future of music

I agree.

also, music is so much more than just tones because of the human emotion. People will always keep the need to express themselves through something. I have no doubt that people will...

Re: A Confused Dad Needs Help!

They probably are about the same quality. But remember that you probably need to buy some cymbals as well. These kits never come with cymbals. So I'd say, buy the cheaper one and buy a cymbal set as...

I made some pictures of it:
Here's the rounding exactly above the snare bed:

Flat Bearing Edge...?

Hi,
I was recently tuning my snare drum and I never really paid any attention to my bearing edges because I simply don't really know what difference they make to your sound. But I was tuning my...

Re: Is this Set-up available besides custom built?

Oh man, that thing looks horrible... But it indeed has the sizes I'd want. It's the first one I've come across actually.

I'm not sure yet about my budget. Actually I'm mostly fantasising about...

Is this Set-up available besides custom built?

I have been a certain set-up in my head for what I imagine what my dream kit would be. So I've been looking for it, but I can't seem to find it besides custom drums. The set-up would be:
20x16 or 18...

Oh yeah, btw, auditioning is ALWAYS useful. I've learned the most this year during my auditioning period.

Re: Beginner set

Wow, your budget is 500 - 1000 dollars? With that money, you could buy a VERY decent intermediate kit. Mine was 750 (Ludwig accent custom CS) and with a kit like that, you can almost sound like a...

Re: Another Question About Creativity

You might try to play drum solo's of all kinds of sorts. Which means not only the chops and 64thnote's-only kind of drum solo's, but also groove improvisations and the like. Try to improvise little...

Re: Advice on Drumline auditions?

I won't have any advice about whether you should or shouldn't join the drumline, simply because I have no clue what it is (I'm not from America).
However, if you want to do a good audition, then you...

What if?

What if you made a snare drum like this?
What would happen to the sound? Would it be singing more, or have a shorter sustain?

(I photoshopped this one, I've never actually seen one like this.)

Re: The expensive drum stigma....

I think and investment in good microphones and some proper mixing skills might even be more valuable to your sound than upgrading your 2000 dollar kit to a 3500 one.
A couple of months ago, I...

Re: What sets you apart?

I've been complemented on my laidback groove and approach to almost anything I play (but I guess that wouldn't be very usefull in a punk band). And I co-write a lot of the songs, and then I mean...

Re: Newbie's high hat foot

I don't recall having that problem, also I haven't heard it from any of my students. I guess you should simply try to relax your foot more when you're playing. It sounds as if you're playing with far...
