Re: Bad drumming days

I had one the other day. Played a set and when I got off the stage, a drummer friend said it sounded really good. To me, I felt really uncomfortable playing and even my drum sticks just felt wrong in...

Re: Drumming with a Family

I really feel for you man. You have to be strong though and discuss this situation with your wife. If you just roll over and give up your love of drumming you will regret it down the track and become...

Re: First time at an open mic experience. (Warning: Contains excessive rambling.)

I totally agree with what Larry said. Like him, one of my bands host a open mic/ jam night on a regular basis. You get to network with lots of other musos. Most of the bands I have been in, which...

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

I am a #2 playing in 3 gigging bands. I recently lost my day job after 13years with a company, so maybe I am a tempory # 1 at the moment.

Re: Ist gig done...underwhelming

I reckon you are being pretty hard on yourself Mary. Like the previous posters have said, your time was pretty solid and the groove was good. If the band had some bad moments in some of the songs,...

Re: my fiancee is letting me put drums in living room ; )

I have my E-Kit set up in the living room. Its a Yamaha DTXtreme 111 which is a pretty big setup. I have my 5 piece acoustic kit packed in the corner next to it. I don't get much grief about it. I'm...

I do play several different variations with the accented beats.

Does anyone else play this way?

When it comes to playing a "train beat", I feel I can perform both straight and swung feel fairly well. The only issue is, when I see other drummers playing it, they play the back beat with the right...

Re: Did Derrick Pope pass away?

I have often wondered about the whereabouts of Derrick Pope as well. I hope someone can find out that he is all good.

Re: Drumming style

I really enjoyed that drumming. Not flailing all over the drums, but lots of tasty syncopated beats around the kit. I do a bit of that sometimes, but maybe I might do a bit more of it in certain...

Re: What has been your best drum score?

I recently picked up a new Brady 14x6.5 Jarrah ply black hart snare for $500, reduced down from more than $1,500. I have wanted a Brady for several years, but could not afford one, until Billy Hyde...

From what I heard today, John Renolds is re-opening in the BH store in Adelaide. I bought my first decent drum kit from there when he was running it in the '70s. It was a Premier 303 series 5 piece...

Re: Practicing on E-Drums?

The main thing I find that is different is the head response on the toms compared to the acoustic kit. My e-kit is a Yamaha dtxtreme 3 which is an upper level kit but is also fairly big, so I mine up...

Re: Practicing on E-Drums?

I have an upper level e-kit at home for practice. I also play acoustic kits at gigs at least once a week. If you learn using an e-kit only, when it comes to playing on acoustic, you will all of a...

Re: Drumming fashion what happened to pshp pshp pshp?

I do it quite a bit in my drumming. I reckon the hi hats are a great part of the kit and barks in the right spots can really add some color to your drumming and enhance the song.

Re: What are your best traits as a musician/drummer and why?

My band is the house band at a bluesjam once a month, but I normally go there everyweek anyway for a hit. Some pretty decent musos play there and most say my drumming is really solid and they almost...

I am visiting the USA at the moment and staying in Parkton (out of Baltimore). I am here for a month or so and wondering if there are any good jam nights around? Preferably blues/jazz or rock etc. I...

Re: That ecstasy moment %))

I still remember when Dark Side of the Moon albulm was first released so many years ago. What ground breaking music it was! I still love it today.

Re: Monster Groove Drum solo by Aussie

The fact that he is playing a really stripped back kit and can still do what he did makes it even more amazing. The kit sounds gutsy as well.

Monster Groove Drum solo by Aussie

Check out this groovy solo by Aussie drummer Andy Fisenden. The song is Georgy Porgy.

Re: me drumming please watch

It's not what I would serve up for an audition. It is pretty sloppy to be honest.
If you want to put videos up on the internet asking for critique, especially Drummerworld, expect people who...

Re: Yes it can be done! (Steve Gadd video)

That is an awesome piece of drumming. I would rather hear this than a drummer shredding a solo any day. Thanks for posting. I had not seen this before.
