Re: No love for 20" bassdrums?

I personally wish that I had a 20" bass. It seems like it would be so much more versatile. Although I like the 14" depth of my 22" bass.

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

You are definitely on the right track. Those are all great drums and awesome cymbals. I would think that any of those kits would work for what you want them for. Some other kits that I would...

Re: Changing Sticks

Personally, I think that you would be able to get better rebound if you used a stick with a longer taper. I don't think the tip matters to much.

Re: Craigslist ads crack me up....

Wow, those are expensive drum lessons. I get my lessons for $15 per 1 hour and 10 minutes or so. Although my teacher doesn't come to my home.

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

+1 for this. The pro kit can wait. Get a nice used intermediate kit and focus more on cymbals. The drums will sound great, trust me. Just get a Catalina and nice cymbals and you'll be set.

Re: PEARL MASTERS MCX?

Like I said before. Get a head like the Evans Genera dry. It has an overtone control ring built into it and vent holes. Other heads like the Remo Pinstripe also have an overtone control ring.

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

AAX and Zildjian A Custom are very odd choices for jazz cymbals IMO. I would take those for rock, metal, and punk and other music styles of that sort. But not for jazz. Those cymbals are good for...

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

Before even thinking about the drums, I would look at getting good cymbals first. To me, having nice cymbals and ok drums is a lot better than having crappy cymbals and nice drums. Although with that...

Re: Cymbals that do not move

Definitely. It also makes the cymbal more prone to cracking.

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

I'm confused. What fad? The single mounted tom setup has been around much longer than the 2-up configuration and it has always been popular. I'm pretty sure that the 90+ year old "fad" will never...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I'm pretty much revamping a ton of my drumset right now. In the past month I've gotten a PDP 800 boom stand, drumstick bag, new crash, Evans Emad, Gibraltar 9608 throne. And just barely got finished...

Re: Kit Upgrade, Looking for Advice

Buying used is a very good idea. Although, I would also recommend the PDP Concept Birch or Maple 6 piece kits. The birch runs at around $780 and the maple is around $880. They both sound great.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I just ordered a Gibraltar 9608 throne and Evans Emad 22" clear head.
I'm so excited to have a throne that's not falling apart! :)

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

I'm more of a cymbal person. I could live with crappy drum set, which right now I have a pretty crappy one.But it sounds decent with good heads and tuning. But I couldn't live without good cymbals. I...
