Re: First use of a click

? What's the difference between a "click" and a metronome? One is just digital, the other mechanical.

So in one manner of looking at it, as long as there have been pendulums, there have kinda...

Re: Double pedal - on it's way out.

Sorry, dude. Only a badass would have the humility to deny his badassery.

Re: Pain in my left wrist.

Stop playing until it goes away. If you "can't" stop, then at least switch out whatever technique you're using and stop playing right away as soon as you feel it hurt at all.

Once it goes away,...

Re: Double pedal - on it's way out.

You're obviously a badass. Who takes a spinal tumor as something to go back to drumming for? Only a badass, that's who.

I'm overjoyed that it's stopped bothering your leg. Rock on!

Re: how to avoid crossovers?

Yea, I think you guys are making this more complicated than it needs to be.

Also, crossovers in that groove would totally change the sound and it wouldn't be the same. Notice the dynamic...

Re: Is Vic Firth's New Lacquer Bothering Your Hands?

A lot has changed since this. I now typically use mostly VF. AS7a. Lacquer doesn't bother me at all, hardly even notice unless I think about it.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Last week I found the sweetest old 21 inch Zildjian. Late 60's by all the markers. It sounds heavenly and it's exactly the sound I heard in my head all these years for my right side crashing with...

Re: Filling in badge holes on lacquered drums

Badge holes? Badge holes? We don't need no steeenking badge holes.

Re: can the quality of your throne affect your playing?

Can throne quality affect playing? You bet your ass it can!

Re: Staining drum heads with coffee

Just go find the nearest neighbor cat, and use blood. When blood dries, it goes to a nice brown color that will look nice and vintage.

Re: Best Drum Pad For A Beginner...?

That's a great point. My little red gum rubber Vater 6 inch pad literally starts dancing if I try and play it on top of a snare much. It's pretty fun actually, but not good for serious practice,...

Re: Teachers is this common?

I too look like a bumbling idiot when trying to show my teachers something. I never feel that way at a show, and I never feel that way playing with my buds. I think it's because I know I'm being...

Re: Best Drum Pad For A Beginner...?

Not really. Just more space to hit. I find that the 12's can be mounted in a standard snare stand easier, but I rarely do that with pads.... They mostly stay on my lap when in use.

Re: Don't do that!

Anyway, if you'd plan ahead and installed a beer (excuse me, beverage) holder on your kit, this wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Too Old To Seriously Take Up Drumming?

35? You're almost dead. You should probably just stop doing any activity and wait to die. No point in any of it, right?

Everyone has but a short time here, man. Spending the short time we have...

Re: Would you uproot to go where the music is?

I try not to spend a lot of time down in LA, but when I'm there, it seems like everyone I meet is some guy/gal from the middle of the country who came to LA to be in music or entertaining.

You...

Re: Don't do that!

I guess it's a personal thing. I put stuff on my floor toms all the time. If a head has been on the tom long enough, it probably already has beer/blood/sweat all over it anyway.

Re: Songs with fast / tricky single bass drum patterns

Good to see a white zombie reference here. That band was in my ears a lot in middle-school. Even dug out some of the old t-shirts recently to wear for jams/etc.

Go listen to the...

Re: Did Bill Bruford stop practicing for a while?

Someone told me that he developed really bad hand issues and couldn't play for too long at a time. Seems like you'd almost have to give practicing a break!

Re: DIY Cajon

All birch ones sound great. Selecting the right pieces of wood for each part is a bit of a challenge, and the hardest part is all the trial and error required to get a great deep bass sound from the...

Re: Limiting myself

I came from the same camp. I was playing for a long time and even played paid gigs before I ever saw my first teacher. The benefits from even just a few sessions were tremendous. Sure, I had to...

Re: Do you hear sounds or mechanics when you play?

I kind of do that, too. I make a little world out of it as I play. Also, with very certain sounds or music stuff I can either "taste" or "feel" the texture I'm apparently assigning to that sound. ...

Re: Why ya' gotta be so dark?

Interesting. I have two crashes in the usual lineup, a rather "bright" 18, and a low and dark (but still loud due to size) 21.

Both are technically A's, but they're old and have completely...

Re: No Bounce in right leg

I bet with enough cocaine, you'd have lots of bounce in every leg.
