Re: What's your latest purchase?

I also received this really nice 20" Paiste Signature Rough ride. This is a really eclectic sounding ride, lower pitched than your typical Signature ride, some trash and a clear stick sound. The bell...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I have this 6 x 14 Padauk and Jatoba stave snare drum in transit. Not sure who the manufacturer is. The price was too good to pass up, so I took a chance on it. I really love my 6x14 Walnut stave...

Re: Bonham amber vistalite purchase/questions

Two felt strips on the batter side and one on the resonant side would be my first choice. If you still find the drum too ringy, take out the felt strips and pickup a Remo Dave Weckl adjustable Dave...

Re: Maple kit alternative to yamaha MCA? Jazz/funk

I own Yamaha Club Customs in swirl black lacquer finish (20/24/10/12/13/14/16 with matching snare) and they are definitely my favorite kit right now. Easiest drums to tune up I have ever played. I am...

Re: Maple kit alternative to yamaha MCA? Jazz/funk

Ludwig Classic Maple would be a good choice, maple ply shells, no reinforcing rings same as the Yamaha MCA. Sure the ply counts are different, but still 100% maple ply shells.

The new Yamaha...

Re: Jazz Drums

I agree on the Club Customs, I have a 20/12/14 kit that sounds very similar to my Gretsch USA Custom. Halldor did a comparison video between a Yamaha Club Custom bop kit and a Gretsch USA Custom bop...

Eric Sooy of Dynamicx ( Black Swamp Percussion) ; Carolina Drumworks and RBH drums would be my first three choices.

I have a 20" Paiste Signature Rough ride in transit as I type this. Looking forward to receiving this, they are very eclectic, pretty low pitched for a Signature ride. Jim Keltner is a fan of these...

Re: How many bands have you been in at the same time?

Currently in 4 bands. A 17 piece Big band, a 6 piece Dixieland jazz band and two Classic Rock bands. I also sub frequently as well. I rehearse Monday's with the Big band, Thursday's with one Rock...

Re: N&C no longer using die-casts?

N&C has always offered the option of diecast or triple flange hoops. The diecast being the more expensive option, which could be the reason you are seeing more and more drums with triple flange hoops.

Re: 24" Bass Drum Depth

I own a 24 x 15" Yamaha Club Custom bass drum that is just superb. I prefer 14" depth bass drums and 15" depth is very close sonically. This my first 24" bass drum in over 40 years of playing and it...

Re: Brand Loyalty

I prefer certain brands because they work for me, but if something else catches my interest and I have a need or use for it I will purchase it. I do have my favourites but I play other brands as...

Re: Many cymbals yes, but many snares?

I started my snare obsession with one snare matching each of the 4 kits I owned then a Ludwig Black Beauty came up on a killer deal and then the IT started snowballing from there. Swapping,...

Say to him " Sure he can, where will he be setting up his kit ? ". By making this statement you have informed him he needs to bring his kit and won't be using yours.

I had a similar situation...

Re: Do you own (or want to own) both acoustic and electric kits?

I did the same thing for the same reasons and also bought a Roland TD 11KVS and purchased an extra cymbal pad. I live in a Townhouse and wanted the flexibility to play at any time of the night I...

Re: 14x4?

DRe,
Those are really nice snares, particularly nice for brush playing IMHO. Yamaha snares are really underrated. My 5.5 x 14 Swirl Black Club Vustom is my favourite ply shell snare. What genre of...

Re: Big Band drum thread.

Anyone using a 24" bass drum for their Big Band gigs currently ? Buddy used one for years (his final Radio King kit was a 26" I believe). I normally use a 20" bass drum for my Big Band gigs. I will...

Re: S-Hoops vs Yamaha Aluminium Cast Hoops

I really like the Yamaha aluminum hoops. They definitely are a great compromise . They allow the toms to be more resonant than zinc Diecast hoops and they focus the sound more and allow more...

Re: Ludwig Element SE Mod Orange 22/12/14
