Re: Is this "Unprofessional"

How do you think the drum heads get coated?! Most times 2 coats are recommended for durability...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Saturday I bought a 5 piece set of PDP CX in sky blue onyx. No pics yet. Need to replace heads and snare wires. Currently set up as a 4 piece. Not sure if I'll find much use for the 10" rack tom.

Re: What would be your drummer nickname?

A true nickname comes from somebody else.

No nicks in the current band, but in one band I was "Truck" because one of the guitarist's little boy couldn't say "Chuck".

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

If I had the opportunity to hang out with him, I'd probably want to talk more about writing than drums. I think it'd be cool to learn what makes him tick when coming up with such deep lyrics. I know...

Re: What was the first concert you went to????

Either Mother's Finest or Blue Oyster Cult back in the mid 70s at DeKalb College. Followed by many others over the next few years.

Re: For those who play at church or not.

Our church has a large sanctuary that seats over a thousand. However, the acoustics in the room were designed where a normal speaking voice could be heard at the back of the room. The other night at...

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

Probably seemed a little frantic because the tempo was way too fast for that song!

I actually liked the trashcan ending!

Re: No rudiments taught in marching band?

Rudiments were a big part of my band experience. In high school, even our grades were impacted by how well we could play them.

Re: Wanting to join a marching band

I met most of my lifetime friends from high school marching band...Gotta admit that some of those real long late night bus trips were quite fun! ;)

It seems most of the "all age" or "senior" drum...

Re: Wanting to join a marching band

Drum Corps Associates (DCA) is the organization for senior (over 21) drum and bugle corps. Looking at their website, I don't see any active corps near San Francisco. I have friends (in their 50s)...

Re: What's your worst gig?

We were hired to play a party at an apartment complex clubhouse. We were to get a portion of the door. Just after set up, a vicious thunderstorm popped up with lightning cracking everywhere. A few...

Re: Ever shown up to play with a new musician and realized it was a bad fit immediately?

I was invited to a jam set up by a guy I met online. The idea was to put together a jam band that would play a few parties and gigs, mostly for fun. We were to meet up at the singer's house. When I...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

When I was a baby, the old Hi-Fi (before stereo) was my baby sitter. My parents would set me in front, and put on a stack of records. I wouldn't move as long as the music was playing, so music was...

Re: Worth A Trade?

Around here, the good old Rogers kits are going around $1000 - $1200, about the same as a used Renown. The Stage Customs are anywhere from $350-$500 (and I'm not that far from Greenville).

Re: Warm up routines

I practice a few basic rudiments just to get these old hands working, then a few basic fills or tom runs to get my mind used to leading with the right hand (I'm naturally left handed) to avoid any...

Re: Drum Beats in Church Songs

2nd the part about learning the time signatures. While playing with the orchestra (we have both traditional and contemporary services), a lot of the music is written with a lot of odd and or...

Re: How many of you are playing for tips?

Small gigs have been that way forever...I've played for all the pizza I could eat, tips, hourly pay, or nightly pay. We even did a few freebies just for exposure.

Sometimes the frustrations got to...

Re: Pedal setup - aka. how do people play this?

To me, the odd one is the hi-hat. The left-most pedal looks to be a kick drum trigger to be used with the roland triggers on the left. I'm guessing that he plays acoustically, then rotates his entire...

Re: The natural meter challenge!

Interesting idea. I'll have to try it sometime. In my orchestra gig, I've found that even professional directors/conductors have tempos all over the place. One of our directors (who is also a...

Wow! This sounds just like an interview I just read with Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters and his relations ship with Dave Grohl!

At one point with FF, he was about to quit (or get fired) for...

Re: So you're going to a band audition...

Having just auditioned for a band, I found that having the right sound system is very important for the drummer. The first time with these guys, the only thing I could hear was the rhythm guitar...
