Re: Just had an idea for a lug design

Since they are a lesser-known custom company, I'm not surprised that it didn't "catch on".

I would, but I'm on the road, and I can't post pics on my phone. Basically, they use single-point...

Re: Homemade drums, any tips?

Make sure you have "some" idea of what you're doing before you do it. What kind of shells do you want? Hardware? What kind of bearing edges? Etc. Etc. Etc...

Measure twice, cut once. Also,...

OOH! OOH! OOH!!!

Check out the link to the thread about my kit in my signature! I came up with a GREAT solution that I've been using for years now...

Re: add a 10'' tom or a 14'' floor ?

Do you favor 2 up 1 down, or would you prefer 1 up 2 down? That's really what it boils down to...

Re: Best 2 up 2 down Sizes for Rock?

Where did you get THAT idea? 14x14 or 14x12 is typically a floor tom size. 14x10 is rack tom size, at least when dealing with vintage drums.

If you get a set with great sharp bearing edges, a...

Re: Which Drum Set Is Better?

This.

X7s are decent enough kits. What exactly are you looking for that your current kit doesn't offer?

If you like your kit, but it isn't "doing it" for you, change your heads. If you're...

Re: Painting the Inside of Drums

If you use non-clear heads, it won't matter to the audience. Actually, since ALL of the shells are painted the same, it shouldn't matter, except to a collector...

Re: Everybody gets a trophy

Positive reinforcement for successes, consequences for failures. Somehow, society has gotten the crazy notion that consequences harm our ever-increasingly fragile self-esteems. As a result, there...

Re: Larryace - 10,000 post roast

How many Larrys does it take to change a lightbulb? None--the glow from the computer screen on Drummerworld lights up the room just fine, thank you.

They call it the money beat because when Larry...

Re: Larryace - 10,000 post roast

Here's my shout out of love and support to LarryAce, or as I'm gonna refer to him from now on, Phil Callins. He's been callin' me Phil for at least a year now, and that's not my name.

Congrats,...

You guys warm my heart. :)

JacksonAce: It's fortunate that you want to go from keystone to B/O badge. If it were the other way around, there might be a slightly discolored parallelogram around...

Re: Any kits you wish you had never parted with?

Fortunately, I have never had to sell a kit I didn't want to part with. I've sold a few nice ones, but nothing I wish I still had. I'm happy with my lot.

Re: Any percussionists on DW!

Yes, they are considered a pitched idiophone belonging to the percussion family of instruments.

...oops, there's that college knowledge, rearing its ugly head again...

Re: Buying New vs Buying Used - A Moral Dilemma?

I have said this in quite a few threads, actually, and I stand by it.

1. Going into a stocked "big box store" like Guitar Center is an excellent opportunity for people to test out lots of gear,...

Re: Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz, the new Acrolite?

A reasonable comparison. For a while, I would recommend them both to my students:

"So, you want a cheap but good (snare/drum set)? Look for a used (Acrolite/CCJ). You can get one for about...

Yep. Got my degree studying classical percussion. I make my living playing mallets, mostly. I'm as passionate about marimba bar construction as I am about drum shell construction, but this site...

Re: Why did the parallel action snare die?

I've owned a Ludwig Super Sensitive, Premier 2000, and a Rogers 360. I never found them to be anything special or unique. The drawbacks of parallel-action snare drums (special snare wires, special...

Re: So how do you mic an un-ported bass drum?

Mic the reso head in the middle for more attack/smack, off-center for less. I find 2 inches off-center to be a good spot for drums 20" or less in diameter, 3-4 inches for 22" and up.

Re: Are Ludwig drums for rock?

As far as I know, just about any drum set can be used for any genre. Ludwigs have been used by high-profile rock drummers and jazz drummers alike for decades...
