For this set of exercises, I like to have the metronome playing eighth notes or quarter notes throughout, it's just easier that way and it forces you to learn how to subdivide the quarter note....

Hmmm I don't have any samples unfortunately. I'll try to explain...

It's like when I play a straight funk song at say 100 bpm, all the fills I play are usually just 8th or 16ths. Very simple...

I agree, forget YouTube for a long while actually. By doing that, you're eliminating a huge source of the stuff that's making you feel overwhelmed.
