I have always tuned the batter side lower. Not sure why exactly but it's probably something I read at some point. Based on this thread, I'm going to try tuning the batter head tighter.

I also...

When tuning, do you prefer the batter head or the reso head to be tighter (to get the fundamental note you want)?

Can you identify this Acrolite?

Does anyone know the vintage on this Acrolite?

And what would be a reasonable price for this 5x14 in average shape?

Thanks!

Re: Making the most out of limited practice time

I think Benny Greb's, The Language of Drumming, will give you the biggest bang for the buck. By learning one "simple" concept, and applying it in different ways, you will be able to play ANYTHING on...

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

So, Bo, if you could choose between the 3007 snare and the Acrolite, you'd go with the 3007 snare?

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

I have Black Beauty that I use on my primary kit, which usually stays home. The Sonor will be my practice/gigging kit.

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

The kit would be discounted by $130 if I passed on the snare....

Snare for a $200 budget

I'm picking up a Sonor Force 3007 and I'm considering not taking the snare that comes with the kit (14 x5) and getting either a new or used snare for @$200.

More info: I play mostly rock/pop and...

Re: Drummers who don't use cymbal stoppers

Re: Drummers who don't use cymbal stoppers

Who makes those, and what are they called? I take it there is no direct contact with the cymbal?

Re: How do I get out of the "drumming blues"?

I think a lot of musicians I know get "the blues" from time to time when they compare themselves with others who they feel are better than they are. If your goal is to be THE BEST, you will always...

I've been a single pedal guy for 35 years, and I'm debating trying a double pedal. I'm interested in people's thoughts and experience with going to the double pedal. Does it take a long time to get...

Re: Cause of Meter Speeding Up Discovered.

Your body (i.e. mind) has to get used to how long it takes to get from one surface to another, just like it has to learn timing when you play ghost notes and accents. Practice with the metronome did...

Re: Stick Grip Issue

I used it on a pad for a for about a month doing mostly singles and doubles. It helped a lot.

Indeed, I am.

I, too, had a somewhat "wobbly" left hand at higher tempos. Somehow, somewhere, I read about the hinged sticks and figured "what the hell." (I think it was a review coming out of...
