Re: Where's all the gear?

I would be interested to know the breakdown of who is buying the kits though. I started my drum journey in high school, and pretty much anyone my age or younger, our folks were all hooking us up with...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

Wow, that Kollias thing might be the worse thing I've seen.

If someone is going to make an argument that metal type drummers are the most well rounded, then I'd have to ask, in all their well...

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

I think it depends on who is doing the talking. As I noted, I own a 6pc, although my playing style really lends itself to a 4 pc or even a 1 up two down configuration.

While Carter Beauford can...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I get how they do it, but as with many forms of music, really good sound engineers seem to be somewhat few and far between. So you have a genre that is very process heavy, with triggers, gates, etc,...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I kind of feel like the bad boys of the metal scene, ultimately want an electronica/club type of sound, without all the connotations of a metro European DJ or something. It would be easier to get the...

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

I own a standard "Gadd" or "Weckl" kit. A black 6 pc Recording Custom.

I have it racked, and it doesn't move, but I use the 12 rack and the 14 floor the most, essentially its a cool looking and...

Re: Yamaha Phoenix potential purchase

If I had PHX money I'd rather buy a custom kit from either Guru or Kumu. I own a Recording Custom that I got on a closeout deal when they shut down the line, but if I ever got above 2500 for a shell...

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I'm glad that I don't care for the metal scene, I've never been overly driven to get a super fast hand speed, and with the double bass scene being what it is, I certainly have never had the drive to...

Not a drum, but I did grab a Fender American Standard Precision Bass in Jade Pearl Metallic. Should be here by the end of the week.

Re: Another guy asking for help with a decision....

I think its a pretty good deal as well. I hate e-kits, so I'd be all over that acoustic kit, looks in great condition.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I bought a KellyShu bass mic mount, 3 Heil PR31BW's and a PR40 to mic with, and a Metric Halo ULN-8.

Now I just need to learn to record.

Backing Tracks

Where are folks getting drum less backing tracks? Preferably for free just hanging out there?

I generally have no problems playing along to a full release on my iPod, but I want to

Open Hand technique

Anyone made the switch from crossed hands to open hands? My drum career has a distinct hollow point in the middle, and while I'm kind of relearning the trade, I've been toying with the idea of play...

Re: The best reasons to become a drummer?

I dig the chicks, my fingers are too soft for them damn strings and I'll be damned if I blow into anything for a sustained period of time.

Drums rock! And the gear is sweet too.

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

I use a 22x16 with a rack and the 8" deep toms. 20 would be sweet for height but I liked the sound of the 22 traditionally. I may still end up grabbing a 20 though.

Re: Who started 'here' long before they went 'there'?

I played in the orchestra, in our school system you could be in orchestra at 2nd grade, but not band until 5th grade. I didn't start playing at school until 8th grade. Since I was in a city orchestra...

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

My Ufip Bravos are probably the oldest thing I own made in probably the 70s or 80s. I have a recording custom but it's 2013 vintage
