Re: Hesitation when playing slow double bass

Hi Blastbeatkeeper,

Are you able to blast single-footed with either foot at slower tempos? If not then I would think it is a technique thing, and is a matter of practicing more with your weaker...

I tried searching for the info but had trouble finding it so I apologize if this has already been posted somewhere.

I have a Mapex Deep Forest Series Cherry snare drum (14x5.5)...

Re: Drumming = Health Benefits ?

I realize that I'm a bit late responding to this, but I figured I'd chime in some info I have at my disposal.

Exercise and Physical Activity are differentiated by their intentions.

Exercise is...

Re: Whea' dah funk ?

Nice thread, I'm listening to all the videos posted above right now :)

What about Lettuce, with Adam Deitch? They formed in the late 90's I believe.

Re: Really small gigs - setups

I usually play with a "small" kit on a regular basis. I try not to bring anything I can do without.

My regular kit is 22" kick, 14" snare, 10" rack tom and 14" floor tom. Then hats, ride, and 2...

Re: Recording Woes

Under recording circumstances the drums are under much more scrutiny than they would normally be in a live situation, because they are the only thing you can hear.

I posted something about "the...

Re: Writing credits

Yep I agree with you, sorry I wasn't completely clear.

I'm referring to my experience, where the songs have been written as a band with everyone in one room while the chords come to life and...

Re: What to wear at gigs

Depends on the look of the band?

I played in one group where I wore a dress shirt, tie, and vest.

In Another group the only stipulation is to wear colourful t-shirts.

Wear whatever you're...

Re: Writing credits

I have had some varying experiences with writing credits.

In some situations, the person who wrote the initial melody that the song was written around was credited 100% with writing credits.

Re: your year in review

This is such a great thread idea!

My year in review: I didn't have many gigs this year unfortunately. I had a few with an old band, a few with a group that I was filling in for, and then I found...

Re: Gear you regret loosing

I regret selling my first kit. I don't even remember what brand it was, but it would have made a good gigging kit now so I could keep my better gear at home where's it safe from the dangers of the...

Re: How long did it take you to find a band?

Hey boomstick,

In the last 2 years I auditioned for loads of different bands trying to find a group where I felt comfortable with the people and I felt happy with the music that was being played....

Re: Everyone tells me NOT to buy a kit with a 24" bass drum! (24"BD owners, please comment!)

I agree with this completely. I've made this mistake only to find what I was looking for online a week later for a fraction of the cost.

Other than that, buy what you like and play it how you...

Re: Your drums ever too loud onstage?

I would think everyone in your band should be wearing earplugs anyways...

When you play a smaller venue and you aren't mic'd sometimes you have to scale back, try to play a little softer....

Re: What do you thin a producer's job is?

It's been said already, but I believe the producer's job is:

1. To be an experienced set of ears that is working towards a vision they have for a project.
2. To be an objective opinion on...

Re: Snare Tuning for Reggae

with steel snares, I've actually had a lot of luck getting a really cool tight reggae/funk sound if I use a bottom head from one of my toms.

I took the clear bottom head off an unused floor tom...

Re: What do you drink live?

I used to drink beer during shows when I was playing covers. Someone mentioned the 3 types of cover bands in another thread:
1. tribute acts
2. rendition bands.
3. sort of crappy cover bands.

Re: gig with no cymbals

Yikes, showing up without cymbals sounds like a nightmare.

I've had a couple shows were I've forgotten stuff before. One gig I was told all I had to bring was my snare and cymbals, the drummer...

Re: What are your Drumming Prejudices?

I like this thread. Some very interesting points from people.
So far as my prejudices go:

1. I really don't like sharing my gear. I've had too many experiences where people angle my toms too much...

Re: Roadies

Ah So you park in a garage then. I was more thinking about how safe they might be just sitting out in your vehicle all the time.

All in all, a really cool idea though!
