Re: Guest Drumming For A Band

That's what I was thinking, because then I could promote the band when I'm on air for being so kind as to letting me play a song with them. I understand there's plenty of rejection, I'm not worried...

Guest Drumming For A Band

Greetings Drummerworld!

I like asking questions. :)

This time I have a question regarding guest drumming. One of my musical goals in life is become a session drummer, but I need to establish a...

Re: What do you think of playing open handed?

I play open handed a lot. My left hand is my weaker hand, so to get more stick time with my left hand, I'll play slow/moderate tempo songs using my left hand on the hi-hat. If I'm playing a section...

Re: Question about moving my kit around

I recommend taking the toms off and sliding the bass drum to the spot in the other room. You don't have to carry the bass drum and your floor doesn't get scratched. If you need to frequently move...

Re: Lead singers who like to use our bass drums as a leg rest...

It almost happened to me once. It was during practice. The rhythm guitarist raised his leg up to put it on my bass. I gave him a death stare. It never happened again. :)

Re: My practice routine

Starting with one practice technique and gradually adding on the others works for some people. Jumping into everything at once works for others. You just have to find what works for you.

If you...

Re: Rocking Grandma

It's nice to see that video has been spreading around! The lady in the video is very nice. I had the pleasure of meeting her when she came in the drum shop a couple of weeks ago.

I made a thread...

Grandma Drummer & The Coalition Drum Shop

Have you heard about Mary the Grandma Drummer from La Crosse, WI?

On July 11th, 2013, I went to the local drum shop for a lunch break visit. The owner was setting up a drum set outside for an...

Split Velvet Band Breakup

Hello everyone!

Recently I posted about a gig dilemma. We were scheduled to play with Psychostick at a gig in La Crosse, WI called the Warehouse. At first tensions between the band and the...

Re: Gig Dilemma

I just had a meeting with my program director. She said that the only two bands that are playing that night are Avenged Sevenfold, and Fight or Flight. I think Disturbed's guitarist and drummer...

Re: Gig Dilemma

Honestly, it kind of is. The rhythm guitarist and myself are HUGE A7X fans. I really hope the "Never Meet Your Heroes" wouldn't happen, but it is something to consider.

It's a really hard...

Re: Gig Dilemma

I just talked to the program director at the radio station. She said that it is just those two bands, no openers, especially no local bands. I'm afraid it seems like A7X wants more attention focused...

Re: Gig Dilemma

We have not been given the offer. This is more of a "what if" scenario. What if we have been offered the opening spot? Should we cancel the show at the other venue?

We are a fairly new yet...

Re: Gig Dilemma

This is how we feel about it too. We would just hate to cancel a show for another show. It seems like a low-blow to the smaller venue. But this seems like an exception.

Re: Gig Dilemma

If we were going to cancel, it would only be if we were offered the other gig. So either way, we would be playing a show that night. The only exception to that would be, if we didn't get the A7X gig,...

Hello DrummerWorld!

Re: live vs studio

When I'm in the studio, I record one song at a time with a click track. I keep working on that one song until it is done as best as I possibly can, and then I move on to the next song. The band I'm a...

Re: what was the first songs you learned on drums?

I learned several Blink-182 and Green Day songs. I grew up in the 90s, so I grew up with classic rock my parents were always listening to, and I grew up with Blink-182 and Green Day. I don't remember...

Re: 2 up 1 down vs 1 up 2 down

My gigging kit is a 2 up, 1 down configuration. I like having everything nice and tight. I have easy reach to everything and I don't have to turn to reach a 2nd floor tom.

The picture I have here...

Re: Do you use a cowbell?

I use a cowbell once in a while, usually during a guitar heavy intro or through a guitar solo. Either way, I play the cowbell when I'm playing a straight beat. So far I haven't had any cowbell fills...

Re: How do you feel about drum offs or drum battles?

I attended a drum-off recently. They had it divided into 3 groups; junior, intermediate, and pro level. Each group had prizes for the top 3 drummers. Each drummer got up to 5 minutes to do whatever...
