Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

I read something recently (wish I remember where) that analyzed tempo consistency in different music from different eras. Turns out in the days before click tracks many great songs sped up and slowed...

Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

I'm in no position to disagree with Stanton, but I do wish there was some way to more effectively and objectively evaluate different ways of practicing. It's likely Stanton is 100% correct but it is...

Re: Drummers who've inspired your playing

Thanks for breaking down the stats. The big vote getters are not so suprising but some of the single vote getters I thought would have more.

Examples Dodds Persip Webb Higgins

Perhaps it's...

Re: Revolutionary cymbal choking technique ;)

I recently auditioned for a project ( I don't know why they are called projects now, I liked it when they were called bands ). All was going well until the guitar player thought it would be fun to...

Re: how to use Stick Control

I am glad to see that someone has a similar practice routine very similar to mine, many of the same books, same type of note taking, and same practice segments . I find it motivating but I was...

Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

Thanks for the suggestions both serious and humorous... Perhaps I am not clearly explaining myself.

In order to practice both rudiments and grooves and to notice and control grip, fulcrum,...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I have two acoustic sets

A six piece mapex meridian with a beautiful cherry lacquer stain

And a sonar safari bop kit in red sparkle which I found kind of cheesy and old fashion looking

The...

Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

That might work but I was looking for a very gradual speed up and slow down over time for pad practice. I wanted to focus on the subtle changes in grip and stroke - sort of just like the directions...

Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

Hello

I can't believe I haven't been able to find a metronome app that can be programmed to speed up AND THEN slow back down to the original tempo. There are some great free apps I use already...

Re: How LOUD were the classic rock bands??

According to some sources the loudest bands from that era are

1972 deep purple 117 dB
And
1976 the who 126 dB

This is about as loud as a pneumatic jackhammer and at the pain threshold
Of...

Re: Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

If you play the fourth measure instead of the fifth in the posted exercise do you also find it appreciably easier to avoid flaming at a good tempo? That what made the issue seem strange to me in the...

Re: Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

Why yes, yes it is, and I am glad I'm not the only one who flams it. :)

Re: Making the most out of limited practice time

I am jealous about your time availability for practice - stick control is a great book for a number of reasons but I think you will get better feedback if you clarify your goals in drumming....

Re: Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

I have attached a jpg that show the exercises. The fifth measure is the one that is hard, the fourth measure is similar but so easy

Re: Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

This is not exactly what I am finding. I can play the same old shuffle with the right hand on the ride or hi-hat, and play the down beat and first partial with the left hand on the snare - in this...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

As we pursue this discussion about opinion, fact, and reasons I think one quirk of the human mind should be kept in mind.

It is likely that we make a judgement or form an opinion first and then...

Re: Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

Well it's not easy for me, and I am glad to know I am not the only one who finds it so, but shouldn't it be in a way? It is just double strokes that happen to overlap, I can do double strokes as...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Re: Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

That's helpful. I was practicing slow but not that slow so the metronome gets turned down. my only rudimental knowledge of rudiments may have also been holding me back here. I only work on the more...

Strangely hard, easy sticking pattern

An easy sticking pattern is is strangely difficult for me after several months of practicing it slow and controlled and pushing it up over time - compared to other things I work on I am seeing very...

Perhaps it was - it seemed to me that I was following up on the idea that "police" believe they are preserving an original or traditional musical concept and I was refuting the idea of "original" -...

I do think I tred a little heavy on what might be sensitive subject for some, I didn't mean to and apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings. I mean know disrespect to anyone's cultural heritage.

As...

Re: The Tick Tock Effect

Yes it's definitely effective, I just purchased the kindle edition. I've been musing about the application of mindfulness and performance and see you examine that as well. Nice
